Looking for a memcal adapter
I am looking for the homemade adapter that you use to put the whole memcal on a programmer to program the chip.
Has any body got any.
Digi-key wants something like12 to 18 dollars for shipped.
Its the little blue connection header in the prom intro on traxions page.

Does Craig carry those? When I was getting the tools together, the only place I found the "header" was at Digi-Key. I bought 2 of them, just in case I messed one up.
I did get a G1 adapter from Craig though.

I believe racingdrag racer is talking about the blue plastic header, that must be modified, to use on a memcal. I only use this piece to "read" a eprom, as it is still soldered to the memcal. This is an easy way to connect it to a programmer. If I am wrong, please correct me.
The easiest way, IMO, is to purchase a G1 adapter, and an Aries ZIF socket, and a few EEPROMS, (AT29C256), from him also. The G1 allows you to plug your original memcal onto it, and "bypass" the original prom. You will still have your limp mode, and ESC, etc. This eliminates an eraser, as you can re-write over the EEPROMS, (Electronic Erasable). This way you can simply flip the handle on the ZIF, remove the EEPROM, and place it in the programmer, program it, then reinstall it in the ZIF, which is installed on the G1.
IMO, it does not get any more simple than that.

if you want to just burn a chip already installed on a memcal, you can use a piece of wire-wrap dual .1" header material, clipped down to the right number of pins, and plugged into the memcal. with the wrap headers, the leads are over 1" long, so you can spread them apart to fit into the programmers ZIF socket, usually. The part is super cheap, though you might have to get it from digikey or mouser, I don't know if radio shack carries it.
I'll ty and dig up a picture of what I'm talking about. Not having much luck right now with it.
