256 question

Alright, I have the AT29C256 chip with the moates read(is this the buffer). With the USB pointing down, the chips arrow is all the way on the top left. This is the only position I get the "Success: Verification Succeded" message when pressing "verify chip /w buffer button on Moates Flash and Burn.

When I press "Blank Check," it says: "Chip NOT blank" even though I havn't burned anything on it yet EVER. I tried 3 different chips all which come with the same message. So I try hitting "Erase Chip" and I get an error. It says: "ERROR: Erase command returned failure."

Anyone have any ideas or can take me out of newbie land? Need to start the car tomorrow. Here's a pic asking if I ligned up the chip right.

Looks like the chip might be upside down? The little notch needs to be towards the handle in the ZIF. However, you do have the chip in the right slots of the ZIF. For the 28 pin 29C256, the ZIF should have 2 unused rows of slots between the handle of the ZIF and the chip (just as it is in your picture).

I'm with Mark, looks like the chip is 180° out. Craig needs to stencil a picture on the top.

Alright, did what you said and flipped it around 180*. Everything else works except for verify /w buffer. Why?

Make sure you've downloaded the latest version of the Flash & Burn software from Craig's site, then erase the chip. Then blank check it.

Upload your bin, then verify. Let me know how it goes.

Dl'd latest flash and burn just now. It says chip is blank but still won't "verify chip w/ buffer." Is it maybe doing this because it is indeed blank? The problem may just be me. Does there need to be a file saved onto the chip in order to verify it?

Why are you verifying a blank chip with a buffer? Load your bin into the program, flash it to the chip, then verify. Let me know how that works.
