Reference Pulses

Can someone please explain to me what exactly a referense pulse is on our car. Also, can someone explain what sends them, how they are sent and how are they recieved.

Thanks, Brian

Also, what is a Crank Pulse?

The referance pulse is generated by a magnet inside the distribitor. The ecm uses that information to determine spark timing, and fuel delivery.

So theoretically the ECM presumes the location the crank is at?

Every 90° of crank rotation the distributor sends a reference pulse (DRP). No matter which cylinder it is, ECM doesn't need to know, the distributor cap takes care of it.

Thanks guys.

So is the Ref. Pulse and the Crank Pulse the same thing?

ie: Super_8Dm.xdf
*Enrich Accel Ref Pulses (Asynch)
*Crank Pulse Width Vs. Temp.

No, a reference pulse is just a reference signal on a wire from the ignition module. A crank pulse is a fuel pulse width of injector on time.

The asynch stuff is a number of injections things.
