TunerPro RT Newbie here - need some help

I just got tunerpro RT and required cable and adapter from moates. I just did a carb to TPI conversion and need this to help me check out what the computer is seeing. Lets start at the basics of TunerPro RT. I connected up the hardware, inserted CD with the hardware from moates. Opened TunerPro RT clicked on the little Cable end button to find new hardware, it found the items and installed the drivers for them off the CD. I next need to open the ads file for my 165 computer 160 baud (1986 305 TPI). What do I need to do from here to get things going so I can crank the car and see the ALDL Dash to start with so I can set my TPS sensor and move into the more complex things. Thanks guys and I will have a lot more questions coming in the future since I am all new to the computer end of our 3rd Gens.

Tony -

The first place to start would be the help file in TunerPro (see the help menu). Then check out the stickies up top for more general information on datalogging and tuning.

Once you have more specific questions, post them here and we'll be happy to help!

Here's what I have done. I have tunerpro RT loaded, cables connected to computer and ALDL connection on car. Key turned forward. I have installed all required drivers for the cables and converter. I have went in to Tool / Preferences and set-up the cable location com port (clicked on button and it says it finds the cable). In this preferences section I can choose from MAX232/2-TRANS/AP, Autoprom or Translator PRO, I should be using the MAX232 right? It also has a list of Target Sample Rates in Hz, default is 10Hz, is this also the correct value? I have since went into Tools/ Data logining / Setup and I have 2 ads files to choose from 165 (160Baud) or 165 6E. As per a board member here I was told to use 160Baud since I am pre 1989. As for the XDF file, all I have is a 6E, do I need to find a 165(160baud) .xdf file to open before I can make it work? I click begin monitoring and I get a blue ALDL Connected but I am getting no info back from the car when I bring up the ALDL dash. Like stated earlier I am trying to learn how to use this program and I have yet to find "TunerPro RT for Dummies" I have read FAQ from TunerPro and dug through Moates site as well. Thanks for the help guys

I may have figured something out here. My car was originaly a Carb 305 and have since changed over to TPI. I am thinking that my Carb ALDL port does not have all the right wiring in the correct pin locations to support what I am trying to do. I looked at my ALDL port and I only have connections on the top row. I thought I saw a pic of a TPI ALDL and it had connections on the bottom row as well, this may be my culprit.

Correct!
You will need to add the wire or move the in.
pins "E" and "M" are connected together already in your cable so either one that is open in your ALDL will do.
