Intro and looking for 89 305 .bin file

I just wanted to pop in and introduce myself on this board.

My name is Greg and I've been a member of the thirdgen list on f-body.org for several years. I have just recently gotten into PROM burning as I've modified the 305 in my car to the point where I think a custom prom would help considerably. My car is a 87 IROC w/305 TPI and an A4 tranny. Last winter I tore the motor down and rebuilt it with a .480 lift cam...which needless to say is huge for a 305 motor. I haven't done much with the PROM yet...other than turn the fans on sooner and played with a few things. I am fairly clueless on PROM burning and am hoping to learn alot on here. I've thought about joining the GMECM list, but am not sure if I can handle the amount of messages that flow through there. I'll probably join come wintertime though. Oh, I live in Southern Indiana.

For my question...I'm looking for a 89 305 TPI Automatic Tranny .bin file. I know there's a 305 5spd file out there...but I was hoping for the A4 one as a better place to start.

If someone has one, could you let me know where it's at or email it to me at gsfranks@hotmail.com.

Thanks a bunch and I look forward to learning more about this topic on this board and elsewhere.

Hey Greg! Welcome to the PROM board. I think the cam you installed is just about right for a 305. Did you get the heads ported, or just a valve job? Did you get the SLP headers installed?

I started with the '89 ARAP code and changed the things that are different between the 305 and 350 codes like injector size and timing tables. I haven't been able to test it out yet since I either had some bad chips or my burner isn't working. I just got some new AMD chips from JDR in the mail yesterday, so I'll be trying them out this weekend. I'll let you know if anyone posts anything on the GMECM list about the .bin file you're looking for. You're right, there's a lot of traffic on that list...

GregF,

I looked around everywhere that I know of and I cannot find an '89 305 Auto BIN. If anyone on this board has one please post.

and ... welcome aboard!

Hey, Greg, didn't realize you were on this board. Yah, I ported the stock heads some and also got the headers installed. I'll have to look at the 89 bin when TunerCAT get's me the tdf file...but so far, they've been lagging in getting it to me.

Traxion, thanks for trying...I'd looked around...but you never know what people have stashed away.

Thanks again guys,

Well, if the stock chips are only $50 from the dealership (somebody quoted that figure..) maybe we should chip in on one (no pun intended)? That's what I'd probably need too, an '89 auto trans BIN. Maybe we can get it from SDPC?

I'm going for a 305 bin...I'm probably the only one. I'm not gonna pay too much for it, if I can't find one, I'll just do what Greg suggested and take and modify the T5 tranny 305 TPI bin. I'm just scoping out the possibilities right now. I'm in no hurry.

Sorry for the late reply...I keep forgetting to check this board...DOH!

Actually, I started with the '89 350 (ARAP) code, but I'm not running it yet. I've been running the '87 code that I started with our original ABUN bin, but I've successfully tested a chip with the '89 code. If you start with a bin for a manual tranny, you won't get the TCC working right. Trust me, I found out the hard way. There's a ton of variables and tables that aren't even listed by TunerCat or GMEPro that are different between manual and automatic-tranny bins...

Maybe we should all scope out the junkyards for '89s? I don't know about the rest of the country but, TPI F-bodies are pretty few and far between in the yards around Detroit. The ones that you find are either stripped down to the body shell, burnt to a crisp, or highly coveted by the yard owner.

Oooh, thanks for pointing that out Greg. I hadn't thought about that! I'm gonna go with the 89 code then and modify it to a 305. I've got the TunerCAT 89 def file now, so I should be good to go...when I find TIME!! UGH!

Thanks again,

Same here. I've seen 2 TPI F-bods in the junkyard here...both have been stripped of motor and electronics when I say them. Camaro Heaven would probably be a better place. I'm giving up my search and am just gonna modify a 350 A4 bin to work with my 305. Hell, I may even learn something in the process!! What's the world coming to!!!!!
