I just recently found your forum. I think this PROM forum is great. I am planning burning my own PROM when I swap in a 383 into my car.

I have an 86 Corvette with the 165 ECM. I have access to a Prom burner & Ereasor. I own a Diacom. I assume I need an apdapter to fit my memcal and an editing Program.

On the Memecal, am I going to reprogramming all three chips in the carrier?

I have a TPIS Stage 4 chip (and a stage 3) I notice alot of member looking around for programs, Will an editing program read in (convert) the TPIS porgram so that I can modify it? If I can read in the TPIS program, Should upgrade ($75) to the Stage 5 program and use that as a baseline or should I just save my money?

Great idea!

The easiest way to do it is to desolder the existing EPROM on your carrier (the biggest chip that has a window in it), and solder a ZIF socket in place. That way you can swap EPROM chip very easily in a matter of seconds.

On the Memecal, am I going to reprogramming all three chips in the carrier?
Nope. Just one.. The big one with the window in it. It's called an EPROM (Eraseable Programmable Read Only Memory)

Yes. Once you download a program like GMEPro, TunerCat or WinBin you'll have to read your current TPIS chip, dump it to a file then open that file in your editing program.

If I can read in the TPIS program, Should upgrade ($75) to the Stage 5 program and use that as a baseline or should I just save my money?
Definetely save your money! Although 75 dollars is cheap for a little more you can make any modifications YOU want, and do it as many times as you heart desires, not just once.

For starters go read the EPROM Burning article posted in the tech area of the main website. It's a very good starting point especially for people trying to get started in burning their own eproms.
