Firetruck is operational

I checked the Memcal connections for continuity with the ZIF, and found that one pin was off. I was able to remedy this, and reinstalled the ECM. The thing cranked on the second revolution and runs great! I drove it about 20 miles last night, and did not get a sigle SEL. Thanks to everyone for all the help. I appreciate the offers by some individuals to modify an EPROM for me. I decided that I would eventually be wanting to tinker with other things, and that having a PROM burner would give me an incredible amount of flexibility for a reasonable amount of money. I was considering that, while it costs $70 per chip to get factory EPROMs from GM, I could burn one on the Pocket Programmer with a downloaded BIN. Furthermore, I can make the ECM do exactly what I want, within certain parameters, of course. I am very happy to have the truck running, finally, and glad to have found this resource, as it has helped me a great deal.

Congratulations. Yes, you are making the correct choice. You think you are happy now, you wait till you burn your first eprom, put it in and IT WORKS!!! (Though sometimes not exactly as you expected...but that is all part of the learning curve).

But, after you start making massive changes to the eprom (especially VE Tables), and notice that your BLM/INTs are closer to 128/128 perfection than ever before...you begin to think that you can do virtually anything. It really is like releasing the genie from the bottle.
