Hey guys, I've got a 91' Z28 with a 5.7L.
I had an engine light come on so i chked for codes and got a code 51.Well i starte it up today and the checkengine light came on again, but when i tried to retrive a code it wouldn't give any. the light just stayed lit.The car is running lousy and the idle wouldn't even come down from 10. I'm not very familiar with this thing, so is it the prom? or the ecm??what is the best thing to do????

 

Code 51 means either the PROM or the computer is bad, I forget which.

I have basically the same setup (91 Camaro, auto, 7730 ecm). i have been messing around with it & did something to hurt the ecm. I have two memcals (prom assemblies) that i know work & niether of them are making a differnce. I think that i blowed up the ecm. In short i was being careless & i am pretty sure that it is bad. I am off to the wrecker tomorrow in the AM to see if i cant get a couple more. it is a chore to get down there so i probably ought to get two.
