eprom
eprom
i have a 87 tpi origanley with a 305 it now has a 350 it is a 5 speed my idle fluciates a lot. do i need a custom chip. i know the 87 ta 5 speed did not come with a 350. do i have a problem.
If you are using a 305 chip for your 350, then yes you need a different chip to get the full potential from your motor. Do you need a "custom" chip? Probably not. You COULD just look up what chip would normally come in your year (or better yet, an 89) with that motor and trans. Most of the experienced MAF prom programmers would probably recommend that you start by programming a new eprom based on the 89 arap.bin, but just change it for a manual transmission... That should really wake up your motor. Then you can tweak it from there.

I used a stock AXXD 92 305 5-speed chip with my ZZ4 cammed 350 5-speed engine for quite a while and had success with it. But now that I know more about it, I would certainly do my own custom PROMs. My dad is using the AXXD for his stock 305 5-speed and we're having to tune a lot of stuff at idle and cruising.
