Glenn, TRAX or anyone else.

Glenn, I have been using WinBin a little bit so I get used to all these mumbo-jumbo. I have a couple of questions that maybe you can answer me:
- Why isn't there any flags? ( I tried different BINs with the 165.ecu)
- Why WinBin has Flags, Values, Arrays, 3D Maps and Hex instead of Flags, Constants, 2D Tables and 3D Tables as per TRAX's intro article?
-Last but not least, what is the difference between Raw and Calculated Value (WinBin)

I don't plan on using WinBin, Just want to get a feel of things and get use to them until I come up with the moni.
Thanks Rick

Something else TRAX:
Thus, it is not as simple as pulling the chip out of your car and putting it directly into the Programmer if you have a '86-'92 TPI F-Body. If you have a TBI equipped F-Body then you do not need to worry about this because the EPROM plugs directly into the ECM; there is no MemCal. For you '86-'92 TPI owners, there are 3 ways around this. Each method is mentioned below along with pictures. A more detailed explanation of each method follows.
What happened to the links for the PICS explaining the above? Every time I click on one it tells me "not authorized, forbbiden" or some like that.
Thanks, Rick

WinBin uses Flags (Flags), Values (Constants), Arrays (2D Tables), 3D Maps (3D Tables) and Hex (just a view of the hex). Does that make sense?

If WinBin isn't showing any flags then the culprit is probably the ECU file. That file needs to be setup to indicate the flags. Remember, the Definition file describes to the Editor what information to look for and where to find it. If its not in the ECU file then it won't appear in the editor.

'Values' can be represented in a number of ways. Hex values have decimal equivalents. In some cases the actual Decimal value may have to be modified to make sense. GM stores the value in Hex. To make sense out of this Hex value the editor often has to convert the Hex to Decimal and peform some manipulation on this decimal value. Raw = Hex. Calculated = Decimal (with possible modifications).

As far as the pics are concnerned. Go to www.picturetrail.com\traxion

Click on the EPROM gallery

Thank you Sir! Printed that out.

WinBin - WinBin Definition files are called ECUs and are delivered with a '.ecu' file extension. These files are available via the diy-efi site located at ftp://ftp.diy-efi.org/incoming/. The most popular ECU file available on this site are for the $8D (730 ECM from '90-'92 TPI) and $6E (165 ECM from '89 TPI). These files are called '730_727.ecu' and 'APYP_7165_89vette.ecu' respectively
This is where I got the .ecu file TRAX. I guess the APYP isn't good anymore. Any other place I could get this file from

Ooh, ooh, ooh, I can answer this one! Go to:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/3rd-gen/files/

and save the file 89v4.ecu to use with WinBin for '89-code TPI cars. As I mentioned in another reply, there will be quite a few more items added shortly.

Just rename the file dropping the last ".txt" so that it ends in ".ecu"
