Did I fry my eprom???

Ok as per some of my other post I just my programmer a few days ago and I was to excited to bother read the instructions or anything so I got my jet prom out and stuck in the programmer copied it to the buffer and saved it. I then compared using tunercat to the bin I had downloaded from diy-efi and it was the same. I wanted to burn the arap bin into the chip so I erased it put it back into the programmer and did a blank ckeck, it was erased so I loaded the buffer and tried to program the eprom, but it didn't work, so I tried a few different things like, reerasing it , trying it in dos but nothing worked so I read the instructions and it said that the only time the prom should be in the programmer is while you are reading or writing to it and not any other time. I assumed that since I had left it in there while I was looking at the bin in tunercat that something had wrecked it. So I got out my stock eprom (Unsoldered, put in zif) read it, erased it, being careful not to leave it in the programmer when its not supposed to be, and then Iprogrammed in the arap bin. When it actually worked I was in such a rush to check it out with tunercat that I forgot to take the prom out of the programmer, and now it will only program a few lines and then a error comes up. My question is does leaving the prom in the programmer when its not supposed to be destroy the eprom or am I missing something.

Are you putting the chip in the right direction? I was excited the first time and made that mistake.
