Will any 7730 Memcal work?

Got my 7730, pigtails, junk 165 and a memcal for my speed density conversion. The memcal has the ESC boad on it. It supposedly is out of an 87 Buick. Are all 7730 memcals the same?

I don't think that all 730 memcals are the same; the knock signature is primarily a function of bore size (or so I've read) so you'd need a memcal from an engine with a similar bore size for proper knock detection.

Additionally the limp-home mode circuitry is likely to be different between different engine families.

A new '730 memcal from Dal (or gmpartsdirect) will set you back under $40.

Anyone have a part number? Mike Davis lists one on his site that looks like part number 16151348. Can anyone verify this? Should I get one for a 90 Vette since I have a Vette?

If you're burning your own chips, probably doesn't matter F-body or Y-body. I doubt that limp mode will care, and the ESC circuitry should be the same for the same bore size.

You'll be changing what's "under the hood" anyways...

One thing I don't know of is if the 'vette has an oil temperature sensor (heard rumors of this) and if so, you might want to base your tuning off of a 'vette BIN file if the ecm uses this information...

Assuming you have the oil temp switch(beings that its a vette). I would probly go with a vette memcal. I'm no expert, but i wouldn't *think* there would be too much difference.

Call a dealer up. You could try asking for Dal at Vandevere Olds in OH.
