ARAP bin - Some Q:s...

I have an '89 IROC with a 350 TPI, 700R4 in it, what changes do I need to make to the ARAP bin before I can try it out?

I've read something about the fan switches being inverted, can someone please help me straighten this out?

What would be a good starting point, I already have all prom burning equipment and a spare chip carrier for the ecm....

Can someone at least give me a few hints to get me started on this?

What i would do personally would be to put a 180stat in, and then run the arap with the scanner hooked up so you can watch EVERYTHING thats going on.

TunerCat's 6E.TDF now has the "Normal Operation Fan Switch" availble as part of its "Switches". Just select it and it will make the Fans work properly on the ARAP BIN.

I thought that the fan switch was only a problem when running the 6E code in an '87 or '88. Since you have an '89, that should be a non-issue. I'd check it to be sure, though.

"Normally Open", not "Normal Operation", FYI

Disregard this. I hit reply instead of edit (by mistake)...

So basically I could just burn the plain ARAP.bin image to start with (Since my IROC is an '89) and then have a look at the computer data with a scanner and see what I might need to modify?

Just trying to make sure I don't do any stupid mistakes.... But I guess will know abot the fan issue pretty quick if it's the wrong flag set....

About prom editors, which one is to prefer - I know of a least three different ones (Tunercat, Winbin and GMEpro)...?

Do you know which byte contains the fan flag, because I'd like to try running the ARAP chip "as-is" before I try to narrow down what I need to do to it, and for the moment Winbin has all the options I need except for the fan-inversion flag....?

The control for the "Normal Operation" of the fan is a "bit switch". You alter a single bit on a byte. I do not use Winbin so I cannot tell you how to handle this in Winbin.

As someone else mentioned, it affects ALL MAF cars, including 1989s. The car I installed it on was a 1989 and it had to this problem also.

Is there any chance you could provide me with a copy of the original ARAP.bin with this flag set so that I can compare it and locate the byte that this bit is part of?

The bit is also defined in the 89v4.ecu file that's available from the yahoo third gen site.

You can use this file with winbin. A simple bit editor won't do the job for you as you also have to calculate a new checksum for the bin.

Here's the relevant ecu data:

/* Item 5: AC N/O - N/C pres switch */
{
/*startAddr =17,
/*columns =1,
/*rows =1,
/*elementSize =1,
/*bitMask =80,
/*offset =0,
/*mulOrDivOrBit =0,
/*factor =1,
/*map_name =A/C Pressure Switch Specification Byte,
/*ylabel =Option,
/*yaxis =b0 b1 b2 b3 b4 N/O P/S b7,
/*xlabel =Enabled,
/*xaxis = ,,
};
