We are using the AT29C256 Flash Prom. Its a direct replacement for the 27C256 and requires no special adapter.

There are PLENTY of posts on using the AT29C256, just do a search on "29C256" and you can read up on it.

The only "glitch" we seem to notice is that some computers need to have their "drivers" turned off in CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT to make it program correctly.

Its not necessarily a glitch. If you read the instructions for the pocket programmer it clearly says edit you configuration files to remove types of programs. At least in my instructions that were on the floppy.

Yeah, reading the instructions is always a great place to start.

I personally had no problems with FILEPROM, except for needing Hex FFs pre-initialized. The Windows Version would not run on my older Toshiba computer, even after turning EVERYTHING off, altering the Parallel Port and allowing Win_prg to have the entire system to itself; it STILL won't program properly.

The Windows Version will run on my other notebook (Compaq 266mhz) with no problems, and found it tow work even with lot of other things running simultaneously. So it looks like the Windows Version has a minmum system size requirement.

Unfortunately, the ol' Toshiba is dedicated for my Prom Buring and other Automotive Software; so I'll just continue using FILEPROM.
