Q on zif socket mem-cal in ECM

I soldered in the zif socket exactly as shown in the article using the same socket as well. When I try and install the z-f socketed mem-cal in the ECM the hold down by the zif socket will not completely close. I know this has been dealt with in a previous post but I was unable to find it. I think somebody ended up grinding down something but I hope it wasn't the latch in the ECM. I installed the zif correctly as shown in the article.

How can this be remedied?

James

I always have to take an exacto knife and trim the ZIF Socket. Never had a problem after trimming.

Yep, that is also what I did. I put the little lever on the ZIF that holds the EPROM in towards the center of the MEMCAL. That way it is not in the way. I also used a knife to trip the bottem and the opposite end of the ZIF, to help it fit better on the MEMCAL. The little folding clips on both ends of the MEMCAL will now clear everything. Also use some sort of glue under the socket to help hold it down.

One other little tip, always test fit the parts, before you make it permenant!!!

I removed the lever from the ECM.
