Programming 29c256 chips ????
Programming 29c256 chips ????
I have a rommaster 2 and it has the amthel 29c256 in its listing.
I was able to read a few 29c256 .Then I saved a ff.bin for blanking out the chips before a reload. I thought I read this.
Well I have not been able to fully program one of these chips.
I get abot halfway the programming failure.
I was able to load the ff.bin back to it but thats it. I tried about 10 different bins. All for 7730 (256 style ) chips.
Is there another chip device I should pick instead of atmel 29c256??
Thanks
Dennis

I am having similar problems. I have heard it has alot to do w/ some of the computer settings, which I have changed, and still no luck.
Glenn Matus (a PROM guru) has suggested I try another computer. I will try that soon and post my results. Let us know if you find anything.
P.S. I am using a Gateway computer, w/ a pocket programmer and have tried Tuner Cat in the MS DOS version and windows. No luck either way.
P.S.S. I can program it w/ the ff.bin, but thats it. It won't do anything else.

I had alot of problems with my old 486 Toshiba laptop. Turns out I had a bad PP (so they said) and sent me a new one. Then I had a problem with something in my config.sys file. I removed everthing that did not look like it was needed and turned off all cPU sleep modes. That did the trick. i still sometimes get a programmign error once in a blue moon. The windows version will not work for me at all.

I have had NO problems with my PP, I have the June 12, 2001 (realease Date) Software.
I am running a real Hot computer though:
Windoze 98 Release 2 (had ME it sux)
Asus A7V motherboard
Athlon (Socket) 900 MHZ
256 Meg of Memory
ATI All-in-wonder Raedon Video Card
Western Digital 40GB Hard Drive
Interestingly, I have found MUCH better stability in windoze if I disable my Screen saver & the Power Management.

Right now I am learning about MAF cars, noticing both similarities and differences between the two. I am finding that you have to think about MAF cars as almost 3 types: 85, 86-88, and 89.
Hell, there's a lot more I want to know about everything.
Try creating a basic 98 boot disk. With the eprom software, and latest BIN on the floppy. Then boot the machine from the floppy. By basic 98 boot disk i mean, make sure you don't have an autoexec.bat or config.sys.. Then run the eprom software from the floppy and give that a try. I actually boot from a 386/25 4ram 60meg hard drive. The drive is empty other than diacom and programming software. I do not have a config.sys nor autoexec.bat
I write my eproms from a floppy disk and do not have any problems.
As others have suggested. Try another machine with the same proccedure if you still have problem.

Ok here are my results for programming 29c256.
I tried with my main PC(amd900),win98se,rommaster 2 programmer. No luck...cant really reboot this machine since its setup as server.
I then tried my 386-20 diacom lapptop. No luck there as well. I dont think the 29c256 would be worth the time saving on a dos laptop. No mouse control
All ATL+hot keys) then you have to copy the bin files to the PC. unless you use this laptop for editing. but then again I dont think ,since most use tuner cat ,It will not work with a 386. Just my thoughts to this.
I then tried my work laptop. intel cel 700 with my rommaster.Ran it thru a win ME and its own dos box. Loaded the first time both the FF bin and one of my modded bins.
I have this laptop connected to my host computer via network so its easy to grab my bins from there.
I am still going to try getting it to work with my main PC.
