any luck with the WILLEM universal eprom programmer???

I was searching ebay and came across the "Willem univ. programmer." it seems to be a great deal @ $46.99 with a 29c256 chip. seller has great feedback. just curious if anyone has any experience with using it in our application. looking to get into my own tuning, not yet sure if i want to invest alot of money yet. Do you think it'll work for me? heres the link to the product: eBay: AT29C256 & Dual Power Willem Universal EPROM Programmer (item 300022986325 end time Sep-02-06 21:01:54 PDT)

let me know what u think. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

I use it, I bought mine from A low cost EPROM EEPROM MCU Atmel Microchip PIC I2C SPI programmer online store for about that same price.

I use the 27SF512 chip for all my needs. drop in replacement EEPROM for 27C128- on up.

I have read that the programmer has problems with some laptops LPT port, but mine works great on my IBM thinkpad.

There is also a newer one that will program and read from the USB cable only. The $46 will require a wall transformer to do any erase / programing. (not included)

Its has worked great for me, and its cheap.

good luck

I think I have the same one. Willem has a web site too, and the poeple who run it are pretty good about answering questions. My Willem uses the USB cable, and doesnt need any power supply to burn and erase the chips I use for tuning. I have an Autoprom now and havent touched the Willem in quite a while but its a good piece.

Did you have to use 12volts to burn a 27c256 chip?

I have the GQ-4x. It works Ok. Software is kinda clumsy. If you have a unknown chip or at least a different chip than was in it when shut down then it locks up the program and sometimes the computer. It won't do some chips that you would think it should so make sure it does ones you want. Like I said, it works.

With the GQ4, do you have to switch voltage to 12v to burn a 27c256 chip?

I haven't experienced that with my GQ-3X, which AFAIK, is basically a GQ-4X without the case.
