Problems with Craig's Software and 600Mhz Laptop

I just splurged and bought a nice 600 Mhz laptop to do tuning with and some school work...well, it doesn't seem to work with the Moate's data logging software I have been using...

Has anyone else had any problems running the Moate's software with a faster computer? I don't know if it's a com port issue or if the computer is too fast. I have heard of people having issues with Diacom and fast computers...

Thanks,

Try running the 'puter in "safe" mode. It might do the trick.

Thanks...I logged in in safe mode and it worked great!! The one concern I have is that it said 'running a dos program in safe mode can corrupt your video display and cause ...something... to act eradically'...

Should I worry about this?

Another question...by running it in safe mode...why did this make it work OK? What is different about safe mode that make's Craig's software run OK...just trying to understand...

Thanks,

While in Safe Mode you are running with the MINIMAL set of drivers(for video, sound, anything else not NEEDED). So when you went into safe mode it must have "disabled" whatever device or program that was running and causing your link up problems.
You don't need to worry about the errors you got. Its just windows.

If you leave that in plain view don't be surprised if it's gone. I've got a ol used 486/25 that I use in the car. Does prom burning data logging, and if it's gone sometime I'm out $50.

I have been careful thus far...I leave it in the trunk and such...at the track I'll have to be more careful though...but if we look at the bright side...in 3 months...it'll be a dinosaur!

Thanks for the help getting this running guys...I checked it last night and datalogged...got 9-10 frames/sec...thing just lost it's connection after 500 or so seconds...hopefully that doesnt' happen often...

Hi Greg-

The connection loss is a common problem with the '165 ECM. No known fix, just restart (reboot??) the car and restart the scanner app and it will come back.

What are you doing that takes that long to log?.
30 seconds is about what I run 99% of the time

I was just logging while I drove from work to school to see if it would work and save properly...I usually log for 10 or 20 minutes under different driving conditions so I can get a log of BLMs and Integrators then average them(that was with my old laptop that the most it could muster was about 3 logs/sec)...I have my BLMs tuned in close now, so I'm moving to spark and WOT O2s...that'll be shorter logs...

Thanks for the info Kev...I remember you saying in Memphis that it was normal for the 165...I am just hoping it's not 'more normal' for my new laptop to act like that...the old one 'hardly ever' lost it's connection...

Oh, and Grumpy...I don't know if you remember me or not...I'm the big guy that came over to your house when my friend bought your GN wheels and I was asking about PROM burning...seeing your stuff was when everything fell into place on how to get started...thanks!
