readouts on scantool

Just thought I'd post this hear cuz you guys seem to have the most experience with the computer. I've been having start problems lately and in the process of trying to fix this I had it hooked up to a scan tool. Now the only thing that stood out to me was that with the car not running it was showing a MAF count of 23 G/S. Then when I started it up it showed like 8 G/S. It showed the 23 with the MAF disconnected also. So I'm wondering if this is normal or should it read 0 like I think it should. By the way it's an '87 TPI car. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

No. The only time I get a code is going down the road about 30 miles it'll give an EGR code. Other than that nothing. Every now and then it'll start to surge also, like 300-400 RPM, Mostly when I go through a car wash but some other times also. Thanks!

My diacom says the same thing when the key is on and the engine is not running. Some of the other values like the O2 are funny. the O2 reads 451.

However, my old snap on scanner (LED readout, big selector switch) does give the correct reading.

I believe the diacom software only works in diagnostic mode with the older ECM's. I am surprized my snap on scanner does.

It appears the snap on scanner uses the 10K ohm short where as the diacom use the direct shunt (no resistor).

Perhaps I just got the wrong cable.

So I don't think there is anything wrong with your engine.

As far as hard starting, I have a similar problem. I thought it was was the cold start injector, but my problem is leaking fuel injectors. The way you can prove this (easily), is during the hard starting, hold the throttle open 1/2 way. If it starts faster than normal, you have leaking injectors. ya ya, I know you should hook up a fuel pressure gauge, etc. I did that already, I just found it easier to start if I hold the throttle open, like a flooded carb.

Mark.

I am getting readouts from my car...

MAF gm/s 2684
MAF lb/min 355

This is at idle in park w/ engine speed at 850 Rpm.

I thought gm/s only went as high as 255???

Any thoughts?

Found out the Scan tool company had a patch fix for this problem.

Everything is reading correctly now.
