in limp home or not?

How can you tell if you car is running in limp home mode

my car this after noon started doing wierd things

1. no shift light (not that I am complaining) and it did work last night

2. hard to start

3. idles really rough and low <400 RPM

4. when driving I push in the clutch the rpm's jump up abit and come down really slow and stay at around 1500 rpm til I come to a complete stop then drops below 500

5. runnning rich

now this is just what I noticed in the last hour. I have craigs software but i dont have it hooked up

does this sound any thing like any one else has experienced?

running the ARAP bin minor mods to support my 5spd on an 88 TPI MAF 350

If you are in Limp Mode or Safe Mode, your SES Light will come on.

I have found that sometimes, if you have not FULLY erased the eprom properly, that you will not get a good "burn" and it can cause all kinds of problems. AND your SES light may not necessarily come on and a VERIFY of the burn will all look fine.

I found this out when I was using Eproms, but when I converted to Flash Proms and VERIFIED the burn, I have never had this problem again.

Do you mean comparing the EPROM with the BIN on the hard drive? Or is there some other Verify I haven't found in the software yet? (There seems to be lots of things I can't find lately...)

With all versions of Pocket Programmer's software (Dos and Windows) there is a Verify function. I always verify my eprom after I programmed it to ensure that it matches what the original BIN I intended to burn on it.

On older version of the Windows Version, it would SAY it programmed the BIN properly, but when I verified it, there were errors. Usually re-burning (sometimes a couple more) solved it. Sometimes, it wouldn't get it at all. But all of those problems were when I tried to burn when I was in Windows under Normal Mode.

If I booted my computer in Safe Mode or used the Dos version, it would verify properly almost always after burning. V1.16 finally cured that problem and worked fairly well on my Compaq. Occasionally, it wouldn't verify the first time properly, but it would definitely get it in the second shot. V1.16 has been the most reliable version I have used yet.

I haven't really had a chance to play with V1.21, but on my initial "launching" it looks nice.

Will know more in a couple of days when I give it some testing, but I don't anticipate any problems. Worst case, I will go back to V1.16 until a newer version comes out.

PS: That is using a AT29C256 Flash Prom. Never had a problem with 27C256, but I stopped usings those when there was only the Dos Version available.
