730 with $8For $58 or 749 $58 for boost?

Hey guys
I'm starting work on a turbo boosted 350 in a 86 Firebird. I'm using the stock TPI with 38 LB injectors. I have a 730 from when I switched to speed density. Does the 727 8F stuff from a turbo 3.1 work OK? I have been using the $8D stuff and am comfortable with it. I have not read of anyone using the 8F stuff. From what I understand, the $58 stuff works in the 730 if you stack it. Is it worth it to just get a 749 and grab a TY/Sy bin? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I looked at the $8F a little bit but never ran it on an engine. I have run the $58 code on a mild V8 low boost turbo engine for about 6 months. Comparing the $8D code to the $58 code is like comparing a Cadillac to a Yugo. The $58 is usable but once you have a taste for how well the $8D works it is hard to have the same engine run half as good with the $58.

I hope the $8F is much better than the $58 code. I spent most of this year changing the $8D code to handle 2-bar boost. That is, I disliked the $58 that much. Opinions will vary. Some people have the $58 working up to their standards.

I looked at the $8f stuff tonight. It looks a lot better than the $58 stuff. From what I can tell the $58 stuff does not have a VE table for boost just a boost table. The $8f stuff has a VE table that includes KPA over 100. Looks like it should be OK to work with. I guess I'll start with the NA motor still in the car before I try working with boost. Junkcltr, I really liked your exhaust manifolds, nice fab work.

The $8F did look better when I did a quick look over it. I was knee deep in commenting the $58 so I stuck with it because I didn't want to start over.
The $58 only has a 2D lookup table for VE when in boost. I think the $59 guys made a 3D table for it. It is worth it to talk to them and see what they have. The thing I hated about the $58 was the non-boost table resolution. It just wasn't good enough with the Ford 42#/hr injectors, slight overlap cam, and LT1 intake.
Using the $58 with a flat VE idle table would bounce the injector BPWs from 1.0ms to 1.2ms. It would cause a rough idle. With the $8D the injectors vary from 1.10ms to 1.17ms and the idle is smooth. The coolant fan doesn't almost stall the car, closed loop works properly, etc.

The exhaust manifolds were fun to build. I had to learn how to arc weld in order to make them. I made a fire pit and used a catch basin grate above it with a hi-temp cooking thermometer and welded them at 400+ Faren. I used 60% nickel rod. I cooled them overnight in a homemade brick oven and speedy try. Check out 89JYturbo's setup. My manifolds are a knock off of his, just designed different for an older engine compartment.
The neat thing is to see them at night glowing orange after a good run (AFR = 11.5). The welds are holding up great. I picked up an HX55 so that might go on it this winter with some Mcmaster 1.6" ID weld-els and 3/8" custom made flanges (good old torch designed). I am curious about the whole spool time vs. exhaust ID thing so I figured why not go big and see what happens.

I'd suggest you get ahold of RBob, and talk to him about using the EBL.
