BLM & other observations

I was playing with my car the other day & made what I thought was some interesting observations. I am using an emulator & can instantly make changes to my VE tables & upload them. This is interesting in that as soon as i upload the new .BIN file I can watch on the DataMaster how long it takes for that change to take effect & to get updated with the new value.

for example (all numbers below are guesses & dont represent anything) if I am running it @ idle & have a BLM of 108. I use Tims formula & calculate that I need to make a change of .8 to the VE for that point to get it to 128. I then make the change of double that (.4) so that I go ALL the way to the other extream (150 something, or 160 something I dont recall right now). Save the .BIN, load it into the emulator software & shoot it to the emulator.

Here is where it gets interesting. If you sit & watch the BLM, it will slowly go from 108 to 160 something. it takes almost a minute of running there @ that point that I changed for the BLM to move all the way to the other extreme.

then I edit the .BIN again to put it "right on" 128 & load it into the emulator. it takes about the same period of time for it to come down to 128 & steady out.

This lead me to think that the BLM is on some form of software filter. It really is not that surprising, but after I thought about it I thought it would be some kind of PID loop that would be faster or slower depending on the Delta change. It does not look like it, cause any change takes the same period of time (about). this leads me to think that it is just a straight averaging filter.

what this told me was that I had to be more patient. I have a problem with patience, so this is hard. when I tried to do some other points higher in the VE table, I tried to get the Revs up & stable & dont know if I was able to hold it there long enought for the BLM to stabilize out & get a complete filter flush. this would explain why some of the BLM's dont drop right in after I make some changes to the VE table after I make edits.

Food for thought
