8063 Extra socket???

I pulled out my computer in my 88 TBI firebird to see what type of computer I had and when taking off the cover to check if the stock chip was still there I noticed a unused socket next to the PROM socket. Is there supposed to be another chip here or was this socket used in some cars and not in others? It looks like a chip should go there, can anyone help me figure this out???

Ive searched all over to see if the extra socket needs a chip but cant seem to find any info. Does any one have one of these ecms or know if they use a two chip setup or if the empty socket was just used in some vehicles and not in others???

In the other early TBI ecms (7747, 8746) the small chip is the Limp Home calibration. I don't know why your ECM doesn't have the chip.

Yea, I was wondering what goes there so I could replace it. The computer is a remanufactured unit and it only has the prom chip in it and the extra slot beside it is empty. I thought that may be the "learning" module where the computer stores its memory such as error codes and the like. So if that is the limp home how would this affect my car vs. if I had the chip would it run without the prom? And how does the computer learn and store memory such as error codes????????
