What is the best and easiest hardware to use for burning chips?
I am looking into burning my own chips. I need to know what is the easiest and the best hardware to use ( programmer, eraser).

Well, I, and a lot of other guys around here, are using EEPROMs (Electronically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory) with the Pocket Programmer from Intronics.... This is the best way to go, IMHO, as you don't need an eraser at all. The chips can be erased and programmed all at one time on the Pocket Programmer itself in a matter of seconds. Plus the flash PROMs last virtually forever, while the UV light erased chips will wear out after a finite number of erases/reprograms.
Go here for info on the Pocket Programmer:
Xtronics Pocket Programmer
I got my EEPROMs (AT29C256s) from Insight Electronics. The only down side to going with them is that they have a $50 minimum order and you will have to buy about 12 chips to reach the minimum amount.... Which reminds me that I still have about 5 AT29C256 EEPROMs from my original order that I am not using and am willing to sell... email me if interrested.
Hope that helps
Good Luck

How are you burning your chips,(getting it to fit wo the programmer) as in which adapter are you using or which one is the easiest. And also which editor program are you using?

I bought ZIF sockets and was going to use them and pull the chip itself off the Memcal every time I wanted to burn a new version. But I decided that it is really a lot easier to use the adapter that has the legs on it that will go into the Pocket Programmer itself and accept the Memcal directly. Then I just soldered in my AT29C256 EEPROMs onto the Memcals that I use and I don't have to do any handling of the EEPROMs directly. This setup has got to be the easiest way out there to erase and reburn the EEPROMs.
So now I have a few ZIF sockets that are just collecting dust but I wanted to buy everything that I would need to do it either way when I bought the ZIFs and the adapters so I wouldn't have to pay the shipping again if one method worked better than the other.
The ZIF socket setup makes much more sense for a regualer UV light erased EPROM setup as you can take the EPROM off the memcal and do the deed, and then slap the EPROM back into the ZIF on the Memcal......
I was using Winbin in the beginning, but I had *LOTS* of problems with it. So I bought TunerCat and I love it. It is very easy to use (much easier to work with than Winbin) and has proven itself to be worth the money, IMO...
