I want to learn more about the eprom burning and need to know which software you guys are using and having sucess with. I amin the market for a new computer and may go to a laptop for use on the car at the dragstrip. As far as the software goes, how gid of a program is it? I will need to know first before buying a laptop/

First, read Traxion's "Prom Burning Introduction" tech article. There is a link on the top of EVERY web page on DIY Prom Board. It contains the basic info like what equipment you need (and the alternatives), various software and various methods to actually burn the eprom.
The favorite "burner" seems to be the Pocket Programmer which works of your parallel port, thus making it usable on a Laptop since you can't add a ISA card like some of the burners do.
There is a variety of software for editing the actual BIN (the programming that goes onto the eprom). For SD cars and MAF cars running the 1989 Memcal, TunerCat seems to be the favorite.
As for the eprom itself; if you have an SD car or a MAF car, people are using Flash Proms that can be re-programmed electrically via the burner and avoid needing a UV Eraser. Also, Flash Proms last an infinitely greater number of re-burns than an Eprom (which generally last 25-50 reburns), plus you have to wait for the Eprom to be erased (which gradually takes longer and longer). Lastly, Flash Proms are only a $1.00 more than an Eprom, so they work out to be much cheaper in the long run.
Not all burners support re-programming Flash Proms and that is probably one of the reasons the Pocket Programmer has become so popular.
