92 TPI in my street rod

I recently swapped in a TPI motor into my street rod. I am using a 1227730 ECM and I bought a cable from ALDLcable.com. I downloaded Tuner RT and have set the serial port and baud to 8192. I have no gauges in the car yet and all I want to do is monitor the engine during break-in.

I am using the aujp1350.bin and 8D.xdf from Moates website but I am getting nothing on the "dash screen" in tunerpro RT not even the voltage. At the bottom its says "hardware not found"

I know the ECM is getting power, my SES light comes on, it even flashs code 12 when I jump from A to B. I have tried several "free" programs with no success.

Can some please give me some advice? Is my order of hookup operations wrong? Could it be my cable? Are my bins and xdf file wrong? All I want to do is monitor......

bin & xdf sound correct.
You might want to try the Super_8dm2.ecu & import it.
Check the help files for the serial port setup.
You'll need to set the interface type to Max232 under tools/preferences in TP.
You will also need to select an 7730 ads file in the datalogging setup.

Re: 92 TPI in my street rod

I seem to be getting "cable not found messages" within TunerPro. I am thinking something isn't configured right within the COM ports. I have messed with this for about 4 hours since last night, I tried other laptops and still nothing,........I am at a loss here. How can I make sure I have the ports configured correctly?

Any suggestions? I posted on TunerPro also, but no one responded.

Re: 92 TPI in my street rod

You may already know this (so if anyone else needs this common procedure..
To find what port the computer detects any cable, there's a few paths you can choose. I prefer to:
1) Right click on MyComputer icon on desktop,
2) Left Click on the Properties of what pops up there,
3) Go to Hardware tab
4) Click on Device Manager
5) Find the Ports in the list of stuff
6) See what COM ports are used, and hopefully find your device there.

You can also go through the Control Panel; System; and follow steps 3-6 above.

Most serial devices go through COM1, unless you renamed it to something else. USB will go through 2-8, usually.

Is there a "Driver" for your hardware? Sometimes with strange devices, you get into trouble if you don't install the driver before connecting it the first time, as it may get assigned an incorrect driver by XP. Then you'd have to Uninstall Device, and do it the right way. Lots of the chinese stuff I use have driver issues like that, and the stuff is in Chinese, and many times the characters don't display as characters, so even my friends can't read it. Fun.

As in the above answer. Always check in Device Manager to see what port you are using first, then fire up TP.
I'm running TPI/700R4 in 40 Chevy coupe for 6 years now. Works great! Great mileage also.

Re: 92 TPI in my street rod

I think I was able to get TP to see the ALDL cable however with the ignition on (Engine NOT running) the data from the sensors is not correct... ie the car voltage is 0, the MAT is -40C, the Coolant temp is -40C.

Does the motor have to be running for me to read the data? I am still getting a message at the bottom of TP that says hardware not found....is that the cable or is that for emulating (which I am not)

I really appreciate all the feedback and advice.
