need more fuel
Hey guy's first time post. I have been browsing this site for a long time and finally got the courage to try burning my own prom. I got the hardware from moates and am using tuner pro RT. I have gone through the flags and switches and burned succesfully a couple times. I have a 383 with 24 lb injectors. My int is telling me I am running lean. I need to add more fuel. I don't know what to change that would do that. I look at all the things that can be changed and do not see anything for pulsewidth, etc.. Is it called something else in this program? Any one using this software that can guide me in the right direction would be appreciated. It is probably something that is simple that I am overlooking. Thanks for all the help.

Welcome to DIY PROM. Need more info about your ECM - broadcast code ('8746?) and PROM mask that you are running under Tuner Pro -RT.

Re: need more fuel
Thanks for the reply. I am using a 1227165 ECM and a 6E mask. Also I can't seem to find a place in constants to set my injector size. This is very new to me but I have started and don't want to give up.
Re: need more fuel
You'll want to read all the 165 related tuning in the stickies up top first.
You'll also want to read the 730 stuff too since a lot of it is the same or similar. Then read it all again.
It will start to make sense after a while.
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/diy-...uide-book.html
The 6E will have constant items called single fire & double fire. Set them both to 24.
You will also want to set your stoich constant to 14.3 to account for the 10% ethanol we have in IL.
Then run another log to see where your at after these changes.

Re: need more fuel
Thanks for the information. However let me give you a little more background info that is confusing me. When I first built this engine I needed a custom chip and I got one from Ed Wright. The car runs pretty good with this chip but I felt I could dial it in better. I got the Moates stuff and saved the info from the Ed Wright chip to use as a base line in case anything went wrong. I checked what he had for the injector constants and he has 0.69 for double fire and 0.21 for single fire. I changed that to 24.0 lbs and reburned the chip. The car would not start and the fuel smell under the hood was overwhelming. I then burned the chip back to the original information and the car did start and run again. Now I am really confused. I have the 6E mask loaded into tuner pro and am using the saved bin from the custom chip. Any help would be appreciated.

I took a snapshot of my CRT with TunerPro and 6E.XDF mask file from Mark's website. Bin file is a chip image file that I was able to find for 89 Auto, TPI 350 based on some magazine tune. Do you get similar values??

Re: need more fuel
Not even close. The injector constants that I have are 0.69 lb/hr for dual fire and 0.21 lb/hr for single fire. These are the values that are in the chip I received from Ed Wright. I changed then both to 24.0 lb/hr, saved the info, buned it to a chip and the car would not start. The fuel smell was incredible. I then put the values back to what they were on the ED Wright chip and the car started and ran. You would think the car would not run with the injector constants so low. This is what is confusing me. I apologize for all the questions but this is my first time doing my own prom. Thanks. Do you need me to give you any more info from the prom?

Assuming your using the 6E xdf that comes with TP.
The Wright bin probably has the cal data moved around so you can't easily get to it with TP.
You'll have to start over with a stock bin or learn how to work in hexidecimal and hac the cal section of the bin you have.

Single Fire FI Size @ 40 psig constant is a two byte value and stored in 0x3D7-0x3D8
Double Fire FI Size @ 40 psig constant is a two byte value and stored in 0x3D9-0x3DA
In Tuner Pro open Hex Editor (Ctrl + H or under menu Tools-Advanced-Hex Editor) Scroll down to line labeled 000003D0 and go to the right 7 bytes. Place cursor and click with a mouse on 000003D7. In my example 0x3D7 contains 01 and 0x3D8 contains C6. If you click on either of two cells Single Fire FI size @ 40 psig will highlight in the Constants/Scalars sub-window. Similarly, if you move to the right to 0x3D9 you should see Double Fire constant highlight.
Take a snap shot of your bin in the above mentioned address locations and post it. You may have a improperly configured or wrong XDF file.

Re: need more fuel
I opened up hex editor and on 000003D7 it is a BA and 000003D8 is an 03. Both of these highlight single fire FI size. 000003D9 is 73and 000003DA is 00. Both of these highlight double fire FI size. I don't know what you mean by a snapshot. And yes I am using a 6E.xdf. It came with the software that was included with the moates APU1. I do not have a .bin from a stock 350 that I am modifying. I am using the info that I saved from the Ed Wright chip. If I need a stock 350 .bin to start from where can I get one? Like I said it is funny how the car will run with the FI size set as it is. But it does and it runs pretty good. Thanks for all the help guys I really appreciate it.

Go to Mark's web site:
http://tunerpro.markmansur.com/downloadBins.htm
Download ARAP bin file used with 1989 Corvette - Auto Trans $6E Mask 1227165 ECM. Open in Tuner Pro with $6E XDF file.
You should see 22.36 lbs/hr for both single and double fire. See my snapshot of ARAP. Just to make sure check your ECM and bin file Id (byte 8 should read 6E)
Post your Hex file dump here.

Re: need more fuel
Here is the latest news. I used the ARAP bin for the 89 vette with the 6E mask. The only thing I changed was the injestor constants to 24 lb/hr. What a difference!!! It is like a completely different vehicle. Runs almost 100% better than the "custom" chip I had from Ed Wright. I then opened tuner pro and did a comparison between the ARAP and custom bins. I'll tell you what, I don't know what they were thinking when they did this chip. There was so much screwed up on the custom chip I am surprised the vehicle ran. Any way, thanks for all the help, now I just need to fine tune a couple things so you will be hearing from me in the future. Now I am going to go out and drive the hell out of this car.

Glad to to help you. Just follow Grumpies rules - make one change, record this change, evaluate results. Do not spare pen and paper. Read stickies - there is a lot of knowledge to be found...
