Mangus?

We've discussed this in another thread. Thought we'd start with a clean one and get a count of who would come for this. We're planning it for the weekend of July 7th in Greenville, Ohio. That's the site of the previous PowWow Bruce hosted. Its more centrally located for those coming east or west. I would be interested in driving to Dayton and visiting Bruce's gravesite if anyone knows where it is. So if you planning on coming, sign up on this thread and then we'll have a count and make arrangements for lodging and stuff.

Edit 3.8Trans AM : It is currently set for the weekend of July 7th. It will be in Greenville , OH. Roughly 20-30 minutes from Dayton. Holiday Inn and Comfort Inn are both hotels(across the street from each other) most people end up using.

Is this a go, for sure?

I'm looking into booking a flight, just want to make sure the dates hold.

Thanks,

Re: July 14th Memorial PowWow for Grumpy

I'm wishing it was +/- 1 week instead of July 14, July 15 is my son's birthday and I can't get home in time if I go (not at a reasonable cost anyway).

One of these days I hope I can go...

Everyone I know with a july 15 birthday turns out to be an "outside the box" kind of person, myself included.

I am going to try to be there even though my daughters birthday is the day before. She just might have to come and learn along with us.

Count me in.

Bruce's service was yesterday. Fittingly on Memorial Day. His sister attended from California, lots of friends from Arcanum and about a half dozen Fanglers as well. Representative's of Bruce's Nam outfit (173rd Airborne) attended too.

Had a mini LFB over lunch at Waffle House after.

I'll get in touch with the cemetery director and find out which section Bruce will be in.

Bob,

Really hits you looking at those pics. So far looks like Craig, RBob, yourself, me, Jeremy and 2 others. Turbodig, let me know if you've booked tickets. We'll need to make hotel reservations soon. Bob, thanks for checking out the arrangements at the cemetery.

The location is Greenville, OH. Its about 20 minutes from Arcanum where Bruce lived. There's a Holiday Inn Express there where the PowWows were held. Should be able to view that through Google.
Most of those planning on coming should be thinking of making reservations. I'll be trying to come out the afternoon of the 13th leaving that Sunday late morning.

RBob told me that I needed to say I'm in <g>

Chuck (Bruce's local helper on the Mustang project) says he'll probably attend as well. Had a nice chat with him and Bruce's sister after the funeral.

Hi, Dominic.

Yep Greenville. BTDT. Was at the house in Arcanum when ya pulled up in your car first time.

But you said in post #1:
So if you planning on coming, sign up on this thread and then we'll have a count and make arrangements for lodging and stuff.
Sounds like you're now saying "Don't bother signing up. Make your own arrangements and just show up." No problem.

slo,

Didn't mean for it to come out that way. The arrangements for lodging would always be done by the individual. The "stuff" is putting together an agenda for the time we're there. Saturn 5 was going to look into the group visiting Bruce's gravesite.

Re: July 14th Memorial PowWow for Grumpy

Folks,

I checked with the Holiday Inn Express in Greenville, OH for the weekend of July 14th.

They are totally booked, a year in advance, since a local dirt track owned by Tony Stewart is having a big race which is very popular that weekend. I would assume the surrounding area is similarly blanketed with fans through that time window.

The weekend before, they have good availability (20+ rooms). The weekend following, they have fair (15+), but that is a motorcycle event at that time also which they anticipate will fill things up a bit.

I'm ready to make arrangements, but the 14th looks grim in terms of availability.

What is the path forward? Anything tying us to that weekend? I could tenatively suggest some flex toward the weekend of 07/06-07/08 (Fri-Sun).

Best regards,
-Craig

Re: July 14th Memorial PowWow for Grumpy

Craig,

Thanks for doing that. There wasn't anything special about the 14th. Just that the 7th was the weekend after the 4th. I'd still make arrangements to come down the 7th if that works for you, RBob and others. Anybody else?

Re: July 14th Memorial PowWow for Grumpy

The race has been an issue in prior years, IIRC. The weekend of the 7th will be real tough for me. In our 2 tech shop, the "other guy" gets the first 2 weeks in July without fail. There's a chance he'll get last week in June / first in July but I won't know until he gets back from the vacation which he just started yesterday. I've always driven in from Arcanum when I've attended in the past.

I don't think I can swing the 7th. I could make the 21st.

Regarding the 14th, Dayton isn't really that far... would everything there be full as well? Could just find a park in Greenville or something....

Just my .02.

Re: July 14th Memorial PowWow for Grumpy

Grumpy was a pioneer to me and a great teacher for me here at TGO. He inspired me for doing DIY EFI stuff. I would like to be there. I have been waiting for the details to settle on the date. I need to make plans with the campgrounds that I will be staying at on the two-wheeled journey there. I have been waiting as long as I could to make sure the date was definite. Time is running out. I would like to pay my respects to him, but if the date keeps changing I will have to do my own thing with the locals with a mini PowWow to pay my respects. It would be nice to meet the other pioneers like RBob, and the great contributors like Z69 and JP86SS that have continued to keep it DIY and not gone commercial.

Re: July 14th Memorial PowWow for Grumpy

I'm in about the same situation regarding a date. I had just submitted a time off request for time around the 14th when Craig found out about the race deal. I could do the 21st of July if that's a better weekend, provided I can stop the time off request from going through.

It's about a 1k mile drive for me which is not a problem. A few more miles are a drop in the bucket. I don't mind staying in one of the several motels showing up in a 30 or so mile radius of Greenville. It's still a shorter (and safer) drive from motel to Powwow than my daily 43 mile drive to get to work from home. And the rewards of showing up are much greater.

Well, so far we have commitment from Craig, RBob, myself, and Monte Carlo for the 7th. I think Jeremy should be available. So let's settle it for the 7th at this point.

30 Miles maybe? Most pow-wow's involved a trip to Mendelson's anyway.

Maybe reroute to that Holiday Inn that we had one of the Pow-Wow's at several years ago. I know there's a Waffle House at the exit, but can't remember which one it was.

Put me down for staying with the date and altering the location.

Make that 2x for me. I just did a quick check with expedia, blocking out 8 rooms (that's all it would let me do without a lot of hassle), and there were several that appear to have availability in Dayton.

There's a Red-Roof out by the airport that's like $50-$70. It's ~25 miles from Arcanum, and on the Northwest edge of Dayton (so you don't have to go too far into town.

Just throwin' it out there...

How are we looking in terms of firming up? Mark Mansur and I are talking about what it would take to get us both out there.

We're coming from Seattle and Baton Rouge, respectively, so anything in terms of solid definition would be helpful.

Holiday Inn and Comfort Inn( we rent the office room/conference at the holiday)

Greenville Oh

Weekend of the july 7th (weekend after the 4th)

That work?

It is the traditional home of the pow-wows and a fitting tribute to Bruce.

I think he would like it if we had one last go as he loved.

Bruce's PowWow had many homes. His house (first several), then the Dayton Holiday Inn, followed by Greenville.

I'd really like to go, but I can never say for sure until its closer till then.. Ive never met anyone form the board, Im about a 4 hour drive away, but Im still interested.

Ill probly make a decision only a few days before, so if i go ill crash in a tent or sleep in the car haha, assuming hotels will be full.

Please post the date, meeting time, and location when it has settled. I would like to be there. The tent will be packed on the back of the bike so I can sleep just about anywhere. The work thing is the tough part so I need to know the date because it is over a 1K mile trip one way.

If it was the 8th, I could sort of make it, actually. Coming home from 27th to 14th. 7th is a hs class reunion, in north central Iowa. Don't have my GTA in Iowa, but do have a 350TPI/700 in the 79 malibu... Lonnnnnggg drive though. Oh well, maybe I'll meet some of you guys later... Hope ya'll have a fun time.

That work?

It is the traditional home of the pow-wows and a fitting tribute to Bruce.

I think he would like it if we had one last go as he loved.

RBob,

Done deal! See you guys on the 7th. I'll likely come in on the evening of the 6th leaving the 8th. Should we start a separate thread? Looks like we have 7-8 participants so far. Should be awesome.

Man, I sure wish I could make it, but that's a long arsed drive from Dallas, TX to make in a single weekend.... <sigh>

The original location in Iowa would have been a lot better for me, but I understand the logic behind the current location. It's my loss, for sure.

Re: July 6-7-8th Bruce aka Grumpy Memorial Pow Wow Thread

This is the first I'd heard of his passing. What can one say ?
Yet, it seems the legacy will live on.

It would be my first, but sounds like quite possibly also the last.
If I'm not working that weekend, it's about a 4 hour drive from Akron.

None of you know me, but I've been following for some time and believe I've hit nearly
all of Mr. Plecan's missives. Great help, that.

For those looking for a head count, I'll take a number.
