Fried ECM

I recently bought the autoprom and been tryin to play around w/ it. I can not figure this stuff out. i have been reading for months. anyways i loaded up tuner pro and tried to datalog and it wouldnt work. so then i tried to emulate and when i tried to save the bin file to the computer the ECM was smoking. the car is a 92 caprice. since i need a new ecm now can i just use a tbi truck ecm? the caprice ecm is hard to find and the defination files r rare/ which i cant get to work.

Re: Fried ECM

On Nice.. www.tbichips.com you can get a ECM through them and get a Modified chip with it. I think your better off getting a Chip from this guy rather burning up another ECM.

Re: Fried ECM

Make sure the cable from the autoprom to the ECM is plugged in correctly. If inserted backwards bad things can happen.

Re: Fried ECM

Alright. I got my new ecm and it works. i figured out how to read and burn chips. I cant seem to data log though. i have 3 differnt datastream files for TunerPro and none of them work. TunerPro reconizes the autoprom connected in autoprom mode and for logging but when i click connected the dash does nothing. I tried using Winaldl and that failed also. I checked my aldl connection on the car w/ a old code/data reader and it works. Im running windows XP. Is there a file that i need for that operating system?

Re: Fried ECM

it sounds like the switches on the back of the AutoProm may be set wrong.
i have mine set to, the vertical switch in the middle postion, the horizontal switch toward the ALDL cable port.

more info is here,

Re: Fried ECM

I have already read that. I have the newer version of the Autoprom. I tried the inside switch in both directions with the outside switch out.

Re: Fried ECM

With WinALDL, you can set the baud rate within WinALDL to 4800 and it should work.
