Need hardware to burn 2732a stock style chip
Ok, Ive done some emulating and tuning, converted my car to the newer style chips, now I am starting to tune my friends car's for mileage mostly.... but these guys dont want to upgrade to the newer style chip. I understand. Modifying ecus sucks.
So I got this one guy a good tune, now i'm letting him borrow my ostrich to run with until i can find a burner that will work with stock style 2732a chips.
All the burners ive found on google are in the 280-500$ range. Is there anything cheaper? I want to start fiddling with my friends 5.0, and need the ostrich back asap.
Back in the day i saw an attachment for a willem burner that made it compatible... however, that was back in the day... now i'm having problems finding the willem stuff i'm familiar with at all.
I looked at the pp2 website, but got confused by the information... plz help me!

the PP2 should be able to do it just fine.
As for other options:
I used a PP2 for a few years, and while it worked fine, it always was a bit "finicky". xtronics support was fine, but for a long time they didn't publish the software updates (they do have their reasons), and this was sometimes frustrating; and they never really seemed to embrace the windows software/world, ... Just my opinion.. For the price, they offer a great product (it's not often that the cheapest option out there is "pretty darn good").
Anyways, after my PP2 mysteriously died after several years of service, I bought an EE Tools ChipMax 2. It's much more "industrial" than the PP2. I've been very pleased with it, it just works every time, the software has been completely reliable and updates are available for free on their website for download. On the negative side, it's almost twice the cost, which means you could buy two PP2's (one to use, and one for a backup) for the cost of the chipmax 2.

Whatever you get, make sure you get a USB version. parallel ports are dying quickly.
you really can't go wrong either way, just need to pick your price/quality/reliability point.

In all honesty? Tell him to upgrade the socket to the newer style or you wont help him do anything.
That should make him think a minute.
Just getting 2732's to work in and of itself is a nitemare. U can get brand new ones and have half or more of them fail, I've been there, smartest thing you or him could ever do would be too just go the flash chip route and be done.
U would also need to add a UV eraser to your list of things since they are no longer flash chips either. I have had good luck with my PP2 as well.

AND you must wait for them to erase (10-15 minutes generally for the first time)...the erase time must constantly be increased to properly erase .... and after 15-35 erase times, they will cease to function properly.
Flash proms can be reprogrammed instantly via electronics and while nothing lasts forever, I still am using my original Flash prom after close to a thousand reprograms.
Unless this is a "pre-packaged" tune that you've developed for a particular combo and used it a lot of times on a variety of cars; they ALL need more than "just a couple of burns" to nail down.
And, whatever you do, don't break that plastic clip. After 30 years, those things are quite brittle and easily break apart.
