$58 Virgin

I am thinking about adding turbos to my Z, so I started screwing around with running the $58 code in my 730 ecm. I switched the pins just like the FAQ post said. I changed my BPC vs. egr to 141 (355 with 30lbers) pulled my timing table over from my $8d code along with my VE table. The car will not idle to save its life. It runs super rough and almost seems like it is drowning.

What have some of you other guys done to get your cars started up on the $58 code?

Re: $58 Virgin

Did you change to 8cyl? stock bin is set for 6 cyl....

Check the base timing in the bin, I think it is set to 0.

You have 2 ve tables in $58 code, you might want to look into the that.

Re: $58 Virgin

Yes changed to 8cyl.

Set base timing to 10 deg.

Added my original VE table and just made the closed throttle VE the same as the VE vs. MAP.

Is there anything else I might have missed?

Did you change the MAP sensor to a 2 bar, or the strategy bit to indicate a 1-bar MAP sensor? Otherwise, it will assume its at WOT MAP!

Re: $58 Virgin

Yes I unchecked the 2 bar map switch.

I will look at the VE vs. RPM table.

Re: $58 Virgin

141 for your BPC is still too high. If you BIN was based of a Stock Syty bin then the VE is for 32lb injectors. So you are either going to want to take the F28 Table way down from 141 or take all the VE down in the F29 (open throttle ve table), F29c (idle ve table) by a good percentage.

Without a wideband on it and seeing what AFR it is running it is hard to say how much.

Not to throw a wrench into it, but you could also switch over to the modified $59 code (code$59). You will have just as much to learn either way. Only issue you will run into if you decide to run $59 is it requires a 3 Bar MAP at this time. A lot of what applies to $58 for tuning still applies to $59. But $59 has a lot of nice features and more to come.

Take a look at www.code59.org if you are interested.

Re: $58 Virgin

Well it threw some codes - 33, & 51.

Got the wideband running and it is super rich.

I based my bin off the stock sy/ty bin. should I just have ran it as it stood and started adjusting?

I noticed when I changed my VE over the values currently in the bin were way lower than my V8 VE values, I just figured it was because it was a v8.

FWIW I am also having problems connecting with TunerproRT. I am editing with tunercat RT. I will make some changes, save the bin, and close then try to use TunerProRT It says connected but the data fields a frozen.

Re: $58 Virgin

So what AFR is it running?

Also your final VE is F30 + F29 (or F29c when at idle), so it maybe too high now if you put in your V8 VE. I would let it idle and get up to temp, adjust the F28 table until you get it to idle at 14.7 for starters. Then you will want to make a run and log it. there is a hack that Turbodig made for input of WBo2 0-5v into the F14 pin on the 749.

You can find it here.

http://digware.lunarpages.com/digware/index.html

You could apply that to your bin and then be able to log in the ALDL what your afr is. You just need the correct patch for which brand of WBo2 sensor you have.

Code59 has all those wideband hacks applied so it is just a flag check for wich one you have. Once you go to turbos you might want to play with 59. It has way better wastegate control if you are using the ECM to control the boost.

The attached zipped file is corrupted. Can you place it some where to download or e-mail it to me. paul@code59.org

Again.. what is the AFR you are running. Yah say it is super rich. I need an idea at idle what it is.

Re: $58 Virgin

jonarotz,

I Did the same with my Z, but with a supercharger. Played with the $58 code (I'm a newbie as well), got it close, but always ran rich. Now using the $59 codes as Paul suggested, a base bin was close right out of the box. Been using the autotune feature, the car has never run better. Still have some WOT testing and it should be good. Definately worth a look. I won't go back. Looks even better for a Turbo'ed car.

Re: $58 Virgin

Well as for the afr I was getting about 10-11:1. I got the AFR up to 14 and it ran decent for a while and then all of the sudden it would lean out and die. I just kept going back and forth with it.

Right now I am out of town in Rockingham for the IHRA finals, so I haven't messed with the car.

I just aquired a 3 bar map and I am strongly looking at the 59 code. When I get back in town I will give it a shot. The auto tune feature looks cool too.

Autotune is a neat tool, keep in mind it is only a tool though but can help you in the right direction.

Not that I know anything about autotune, since I wrote most of it.

Re: $58 Virgin

Wow!

I got home this morning and started screwing with it. I loaded the $59 code and adjusted the BPC vs. EGR and it ran pretty damn good!

But I have a couple questions. Rather than ask a bunch of $59 questions here I posted them on the Code 59 forum.

Thanks guys!
