MAP drop during acceleration

After reviewing a Datamaster datalog, i noticed that as the car accelerated the MAP kpa's drop. At 3875 Rpm the map is 96.3 kpa, at 6250 RPM the kpa's drop to 93.4. Does this indicate a intake track restriction? Thanks in advance.

Re: MAP drop during acceleration

That or the throttle blades are not opening all of the way. To calculate the drop the MAP KPa needs to be subtracted from the barometric pressure. This can be read as the MAP KPa at key-on, engine-off.

Re: MAP drop during acceleration

The datalog says TPS 100%, but i guess i need to physically verify that it is 100%. If it is opening up all the way, how much of a drop in kpa's should i look for before considering a different intake track? Right now i have the stock airbox with the bottoms cut out and K&N's. Thanks.

Re: MAP drop during acceleration

General rule of thumb for street performance is less then 1" Hg pressure drop at max RPM WOT. For all-out performance (such as a pro-stock engine) less then 0.5" Hg is best. So, it you get it someplace between 0.5" and 1.0" Hg it is decent.

To check the TB for actual WOT manually open the linkage at the TB. Note where it stops, there is typcially a throttle stop of some nature. A hard metal to metal contact.

Then stand next to the car and reach in with the right foot and plant the go-pedal. You can usually then observe if the TB is opening enough to contact the stop.
