newbie ?

i read Traxions' Introduction to Prom Burning from top to bottom and then back up to the top, and I am very interested in this process. I understand that prices on things go up and models get replaced by newer models but the programmer unit the article recommends is $100 more than the article says it is, I am just curious if there is a more affordable unit or if anyone is selling their programmer?

also i was scanning ebay and there are programmers similar to this one http://cgi.ebay.com/27C512-PCB5-0-C-...QQcmdZViewItem
do these work? i looked and for my car(91 305TBI) it uses a 2732a according to this site, the ebay description says 2732..no mention of the A.

Re: newbie ?

You want to avoid using the 2732 anything PROMS. Haven't been made in years and there is no standard programming algorithm for them. Check moates.net for the G2 and Burn1.

Re: newbie ?

That is the one, will also need some flash chips to go with it. Please be sure of understanding what and why you need before ordering.

The only improvement to the 2732 series of EPROMs is when they created the 2764 series. By then there was a JEDEC spec in place for pinouts, programming algo's, and manufactuer identification.

Re: newbie ?

Don't know what you have read so far. As for tuning, the Burn1, G2, a few AT29C256's or 27SF512's, a data logging cable (ALDL) a data logging program (WinALDL), an editor (TP), and a XDF file. The G2 gets soldered into your current ECM. This allows the larger chips to be used. Skip a ZIF if thinking about it.

Then read your current BIN (the Burn1 will do that). Fire up TP, read in the XDF and the BIN, check what is available for tables. Change what is required, stack or offset burn chip, remove old chip & insert newly flashed chip. Save old chip as they are re-usable.
