turbo a 4cyl

ok, I have this plan and since I have the 4cyl. and turbo I just need to figure out what I will use to manage the fueling befor I can get the injectors and so on.

now for this boards sake let's say I am taking this 1990 Quad 4 H.O. eng. and putting it into a 3rdgen. what I need to decide on is what turbo code I should run this thing with.


now I could go with a 7749 and the $58 code or one of it's brother codes since I still have my tunercat def file. this would be an idea since the 2.0turbo sunbirds/grandams used this as well

or is there a way to change the factory code (hack)for the 1990 quad code to add the tables?

a buddy of mine just asked me pretty much this same question but putting a turbo on a 4cyl s10. this is what I came up with from searching around. double check all of this info because I could and prob am wrong about parts. for the ecm any 730 or 749 will work, just dump $58 into it, no converting needed,(just a repin) then just check the 1 or 2 bar map box. the hack I believe is to run a 3 bar for over 15lbs of boost. or run code $59 which is built off $58 and runs a 3 bar. (I've only used 59, so I told my buddy to go with this.) the defferent ecm's depends on the injector drivers. the 730 only has one. so if your running high Z injectors its all good,(being you only need 4, maybe even low z would work, just not in peak hold mod unless you modded the board inside) the 749's have 2 drivers. so you can run low z on v6 and v8's. but some jumpers inside are different for running the low Z's in peak hold mode like they should be. where the sunbird is wired like this from the factor. so since you are like my friend, and don't have either ecm's now, I told him to look up the sunbird 749 incase he wants to run big low z injectors. dump $59 in it, add a 3 bar map and I think your pretty much good to go. I'm sure others can point out where my thinking is worng, if it is. oh and I looked up local junkyards to get the ecm out of on here. car-parts.com founda sunbird one for 50$ within 20mins of me.

that's kinda what I was thinking of doing I just wonder since the 1988 2.3 used the 749 (these use the peek and hold like mine does) I would like to use these so I can go with a larger injector and keep good idle fueling. the problem I see is the 88 2.3 used a differant crank timing deg? I belive but I am not sure.

I guess at least the harness for the 2.3 is such a basic setup repinning should be easy. I just wonder how the coil over plug setup will work on the $58 code

I don't know what the 3.1 turbo code is. I'm still pretty new to this too. I believe that the coil on plug stuff has been done because some of the GN guys are running a 749 ecm. I saw a post that touched on it, over on the code 59 board. I think all the years of turbo sunbirds had the peak and hold injectors. so any year would work. its only some resistors added somewhere. guys are doing it to the normal 749ecm's too.
