Chaning degrees C to degrees F in s_aujpv4?

Ok, this is a new adventure area for me.

If I want to change the degrees C for coolant temp to degrees F....do I just change the formula and offsets?....and can I use the formula in the EGT Temp section? (shown below)
Deg C = (N * 0.75) - 40
or
Deg F = (N * 1.35) + 40

I'm asking....

I don't know what I'm doing!

I do understand that the metric system is better, however all my references are in Degrees F so I thought I'd ask about this....

Re: I'm asking....

Correct formula is:

Deg F = (N * 1.35) - 40

RBob.

edited in: How the changes are made depend upon whether it is the .xdf or the .ads file. For the data stream need to change the .ads file. Only need to change one value in the equation.

If you want to change the Tuner Pro (TP) BIN values to degrees F, then the .xdf file needs to be edited. This is done directly in TP by right clicking on an entry (left hand windows). Will need to change the equation value for BIN values that are CTS values.

Then change column or row labels from degrees in C to degrees in F. These will be tables that are based on the CTS.

well, this formula looks oddballish then....

the note at the bottom has a different formula than mentioned here on this thread....

On another note, I adjust my fan start/stop values to 88.3 and 85.3 respectively....however, the fan is starting at ~90 and stopping at ~71....this struck me as odd. Starts just fine, but that's way off for a digital input/output. any ideas?

Re: Chaning degrees C to degrees F in s_aujpv4?

RBob has the conversion correct.
The text in that screenshot is not correct. That item, in that definition is used with the lookup table. A conversion formula is not used and I must have cut/pasted text in it when I created it.
Also look at the "coolant Temp at Startup" item, the formula is correct.
The item in the screenshot has nothing to do with fan temps.
You should be looking at coolant temp.(2 items farther down)

Re: Changing degrees C to degrees F in s_aujpv4?

I realize that I was looking at EGT; I was just asking about the formula since it didn't agree with the earlier statements on this thread....

I'm just going to work with Celsius; not worth the hassle to change anyway...thanks all for educatin' me.

I'm still curious why my fan start/stop values are a bit off from the setpoints I burned into the chip...any ideas?

Re: Chaning degrees C to degrees F in s_aujpv4?

Think it has to do with the offset table functions in
Tuner Pro. Could be wrong
I've come across that also, but close enough
I set mine higher or lower than I want and comes out rite.
Accurate temp gauge a factor to.

Re: Chaning degrees C to degrees F in s_aujpv4?

A quick reality check on conversion formulas 100 C = 212 F and 0 C = 32 F.

F = (9/5)C + 32

212 F = (100 * 1.8) + 32

212 F = 180 +32

F - 32 * 5/9 = C

(212 F - 32) * 5/9 = 100 C

212 F - 32 = 180 x .5555... = 100 C

72 F - 32 = 40. 40 x 5/9 = 22.2 C

(C * 1.8) + 32 = F

25 C x 9/5 (1.8)= 45. 45 + 32 = 77 F

It's a little odd....

...a friend of mine has an LT1 and his fan starts promtly at the desired values...it's curious that the STOP temp for mine is so far below 85.3 degrees.

Re: It's a little odd....

85.3 C = 185.54 F

(85.3 * 1.8) = 152.54

152.54 + 32 = 185.54

What thermostat are you running ?

One of the xdf's lists fan 1 (the first 2 locations) on/off as "AC on" and fan 2 (next two locations) on/off as "AC off"

XDF that I'm using....

is 8D_SAUJP_V4_09032007.xdf

I'm running a 180 thermostat, car warmed right up above there. That's isn't the concern; I'm wondering why the STOP value is occurring so far below 85.3 C? It's odd that the fan START value(88.3) doesn't occur exactly either, but the stop value of ~71 C is way off????

By the way, I'm reading the temperature in TunerProRT(Dashboard, big digital readout...can't hardly read it wrong) so it's the same temp that the ECM should be using for the fan start and stop, eh?

Re: Chaning degrees C to degrees F in s_aujpv4?

Not necessarily...
The "setting" is done in the bin using the conversion factor of the XDF.
The displayed value is read out in the datastream and is using the conversion factor in the ADS file. There will probably be a rounding error in both end but shouldn't be Waaaaayy off.

Well, the stop temp is off by >20 degrees.....

that's odd-ballish, eh?
Can y'all guide on where to look for conversion errors (I don't want to screw up a good thing).

How do I look at the conversion factor in the XDF? I just compared the ADS to a couple of other ADSs and the coolant temp formula looks ok.

Double check with ohm meter.

GM Temperature Sensor Resistance

Degrees F... Degrees C ...Ohms
-40º..............-40...........100,700
.. 0º..............-18............25,000
.20º................-7............13,500
.40º.................4..............7,500
.70º................21.............3,400
100º...............38.............1,800
160º...............71...............450
210º...............99...............185

Sensor is fine.....

I just changed thermostats from a 195 to a 180 and all the parameters look normal. I just hooked up the electric fan to the ECM and that's when I noticed the anomaly between what temp is being displayed and what temp I selected in the BIN.

how do I mess with the XDF?

I don't want to touch it without a little guidance...
