Hello Everyone,
I had some BIN File question that Craig over at moates.net said that I could get answers to here and he said that there are alot of experienced individuals here in regards to GM Tuning.
I have a Ostrich 2.0 as my tuning tool by the way and I'm new to using this.
I have some customers that have the older 5.7L TBI's, one is a 1993, one is a 1995. The problem is I can't find the same BIN file's as there ECM's.
- Can I use another BIN for that year to upload to my laptop ( I heard that I have to Upload the BIN file to TunerPro RT first before pluging onto the ECM I'm going to tune ) especially if it is a BIN that is better then there's?
Any help would be very much appreciated!
Thank you very much.

David

First of all what bins/ecm #'s are you trying to tune?? Truck or cars?? I would think that you will beable to use a different bin that is the same style as your current set up but we need more info on the Vehicle combinations. Auto/standard. Truck or car etc. What are you looking for in Bin files??
Just so there is no confusion, I'll just deal with one BIN/ECM at a time.
The vehicles are as follows:
1993 GMC P/U 1500 4WD AUTO,
Engine:
Rebuilt 5.7L with Vortec heads, Edelbrock EPS Performer intake, Performer Cam, Flow-Tech OEM replacment headers, MSD PRO-BILLET "drop in" Distributor, MSD 8.5 wires and other then that its a stock 5.7L TBI
ECM (STOCK):
BIN: BHAS
PROM: 16194300
SCAN ID: 4325
The most Superseding Prom from this BHAS is a BLCR (Prom # 16205201
What I want to do with the Ostrich 2.0 is:
DELETE EGR
DELETE EVAP/CCP
And IF POSSIBLE update the prom to the latest BLCR Prom
Thanks!

I don't know anything about the Ostrich but, go to the DIY PROM thread in main menu and read about programming the eproms yourself.
I use Tunerpro RT to do exactly what you need.
I first read the eprom into a data file, then load it in TP, then edit it and save it back to file.
Then you burn it back to an eprom, and see if it works.
You'll probably need Craig's Burn1, some blank flashable proms, one of his prom adapters, and a whole lot of persistance.
This is based on my working with TPI. I've only worked with them. There might be some difference with TBI. I'm sure someone will correct me if it's not correct.
Good luck.

So I can get the BIN file, XDF files, etc. if I get the BURN 1 as well?

The Ostrich is for real time tuning (the best ) but unless you leave it in the car full time as some of us have done , you need some means of burning your final tune (Bin ) on to a chip so it can be installed in the car.Originally Posted by scuzz

So the ostrich 2.0 is like a Reprogramable chip as it were.
I would need the BURN 1 to put the saved setting from the ostrich, upload to Tuner Pro RT and then downlaod to BURN 1 to a chip, INSTALL and done!
I always thought that the ostrich/ tuner pro RT were making changes to the physical computer, and I couldn't understand WHY you would remove your programable chip/ prom to plug on the Ostrich... I thought if its making changes to the Prom too, then why isn't there an adapter so the ostrich goes to the prom....
That cleared up alot for me now!
I DO need a chip burner too if I'm doing many cars!!!!!!!!!!

You got it.
Tune with Ostrich then when happy burn that tune to a chip.
Old way was burn chip , install and test , remove , erase tune , burn again and again and again until right.
Excellent write up on chip tuning equipment requirements

Also has some good info further down page on tuning
