First time datalogging help

Okay, I have not done any datalogging but I am hoping to tomorrow. A friend has an aldl cable that he got from somewhere and he says it doesn't work so I wanted to try it on my car. He has an 87 firebird and mine is an 89. He has an aftermarket chip in his car and mine is stock. We are going to a car show and doing a little drag racing while there and wanted to hook my car up to my laptop just to see what it is saying while going down the track. I have tunerpro rt that I will be using. Just wanted to be sure how to set up the program just to do a some datalogging for now.

I would go into the ALDl setup and choose for the datastream definition the 1227165.6E.ads since it says that it says that it is for the 89 350 tpi. After setting this up and connecting the cables to the laptop and the aldl port under the dash and connecting in through the program and making sure the car is turned on is there anything else that needs to be done in the program? Do I need to set up the xdf file with the 6E.xdf just for datalogging? Sorry if this is simple stuff to most but I think I know what I am doing just want to be sure I am going in the right direction. My car is fairly stock with just a few bolt on things. Any help from anyone is greatly appreciated. If this does work I know I will probably need some help deciphering the data and I know the people on here are fairly good about helping others out that is why this site is so great. Thanks again for any help anyone is willing to offer.
