730 ecm ground D3

I looked though chevy thunder and seen that you ground D3 on the ecm if you have an 8 cylinder. Is this correct?

Re: 730 ecm ground D3

M notes show D3 as a digital input (on/off) that is not used.
I have never needed it and have not seen anything that used it.
At least in $8D anyway.
Should not have to ground it from what I see.

Re: 730 ecm ground D3

While comparing my 92 v6 to a 92 v8 again this morning, I seen seen this post so I looked this up also. It showed the D3 as a ground that was used from 86-89 tpi's and in 90 they quit using the D3 as a ground. I don't know what ECM they used from 86-89 but if not the 7730 you may have to do some repinning, you can do some comparing with these pictures. It just shows it as a ground so it may need to be grounded to the body or engine.

Man, I can't open the pics says it's invalid or corupt. I will do sum more checking . i have another good one. I found that you can take away the amount of fuel by jumping the 14 pin chip onder the limp mode with a 15k resistor? Had a pic but lost it.

I think you guys are confusing 730 ECM pin D3 input which a digital (on/off) input with the MEMCAL cyl select pin. Two very different things.

You can ground ECM pin D3 or leaveit floating for any engine size.

Re: 730 ecm ground D3

Thanks for the info, I will leave that alone. The reason I was asking is because I got a code 41 bad metcal cylinder select so I turned that code off in the prom, as it was done on the prom from afi. I though that was just avoiding another problem. Should the code 41 be turned OFF? Also got a 43 knock sensor, not running one, turned it off also. Do I need a knock sensor?

Re: 730 ecm ground D3

I was getting the same with the s aujp and the cyclinder was set wrong. It also made it show a ks error. Check and make sure you have the cyclinder select set on 0. The 8d doesn't show the cyclinder select but the s aujp xdf does.

Well I got the saujp bin and xdf all set. I loaded the zip file V41024 bin and the V409032007 xdf, is this what you where talking about? Don't see the cylinder select to set to 0?

Good
The reason I was asking is because I got a code 41 bad memcal cylinder select so I turned that code off in the prom, as it was done on the prom from afi. Should the code 41 be turned OFF?
If you have a V6 Memcal installed then you must turn off the error code or it will throw the error.
You are trying to run a V8 with a part designed for a V6, there should be an error. The software checks the hardware, setting 00 in cyclinder select indicates a V8 application. The hard wires on the memcal indicate otherwise.
So an error occurs.
If your software dies, you will probably not make it run with that memcal in limp mode. This is a problem even if it was a V8 memcal.

Also got a 43 knock sensor, not running one, turned it off also. Do I need a knock sensor?
That's up to you. If you want the protection or not.

Why don't people use the newest versions of things...

Its in constants/scalars in tunerpro. Its listed as "Error Qual 41, cyclinder select" It needs to be set on 00 for a v8 and it says to set at 18 for a tbi. If your memcal came from a tbi you may have to set it on 18. After setting you will need to unhook the ecm or the battery to clear the error. If 00 don't work try 18 if it doesn't work try 08 which is for a v6 memcal.

Never turn off the "Error 41" bit mask in the XDF. You want it on.

If using a V6 engine with a V6 MEMCAL you want to set the "number of cylinders" to 6

If using a V8 engine with a V8 MEMCAL you want to set the "number of cylinders" to 0

If using a V8 engine with a V6 MEMCAL you want to set the "number of cylinders" to 0 AND add the jumper wire of the MEMCAL for the 16 pin NETRES from pin_13 to pin_10.

Re: 730 ecm ground D3

Got it. The prom is from AFI, Weather it is a v6 or v8, don't know. Is there a way to tell, the cylinder number is set to 0, I can try 18? 08? If I use the jumper and it is a v8 will it harm it?
