88 T/A many mods (mild) only change to ARAP was 30lb injector constant. Engine will not start. With factory chip only engine starts fine, just runs very rich.

OK, it should be set up as a 128K device. If it is set up as a 256K device then will need to stack the BIN. Make sure that at key-on, engine-off the SES/CEL blinks off once then turns on solid.

If it doesn't do the blink off then the ECM isn't running from the BIN.

IIRC the Prominator gets installed on a MEMCAL adapter. Be sure to plug the stock MEMCAL into the side of it. Otherwise there will be issues with malfunction codes and improper injector firing rate.

Thanks Rbob for reply. The Prominator is configured as 16k. Originally had it configured for 32k. Couldn't figure bin stacking out so Bill reconfigured it for me. Memcal is plugged into adapter board. On previous attempt with 32k config cooling fans would not shut off, but Wed. on completion of upload fans did turn of indicating to me it was successful. Haven't seen much info on this AKXY bin. Car is kind of unique in that it had all of GTA high performance parts, but no bells or whistles. Factory paint scheme indicates it is not GTA (turquoise over silver ground effects).

It has been a little while since I had my '88 GTA with AKXY.

I "think" AKXY did NOT use VATs but ARAP does. You may need to uncheck the VATS box in the ARAP bin.

Hope this helps.

What JMS said... He is correct about VATs, ARAP has it but your vehicle doesn't, hence the no start. Good mention, I miss the simple stuff.

hotrodta57, try a search for ARAP here. There are a couple of others items that should be changed. Excess spark timing, and a delay before crank fuel is delivered. Both simple changes in the calibration to correct.

About the 128K and 16K Prominator settings: either 6 or a half-dozen. The 128K is the bits of PROM storage, the 16K is the bytes of PROM storage. Eight bits to a byte has them both the same.

After disabling VATS. Car started just fine with ARAP bin. Could not give any throttle or engine would try to stall and had a backfire (was not doing that with AKXY). Guess it needs tuning LOL! Thanks for the help!

A cheapo laptop and Prominator Pro. New to this also, seems patience and help from TGO members should eventually get you/us there.

Again, it has been a while for me but I "think" ARAP needed something about the fan on/off setting or something.

Maybe to do with Corvette fans being different about switching on and off.

Not real sure. Do the search. You would not want your fans off when they need to be on. Just in case.

jms,

Yes, again you are correct. It seems to want to miss/backfire after running a couple of minutes. The engine starts rather easily, then after a few mild revs it wants to miss. Wish I could find an AKXY bin for comparison. Tried to find a AKXY bin on web but no luck.

I found my AKXY bin in my old TunerPro files but I'm not sure how to get it to you. I also found a couple modified bins including ARAP and ARAP with modified timing I used in my GTA (sold almost a year ago).

But, like I said, How do I get them to you?

Send me a PM with your email address and I'll try one as an attachment on Sunday.
