Ok, for starters... take NOTHING for granted!!!

I "knew" my base timing was 10*, and I'd indicated thus in the code.
Ummmm.... Not.

Seems the distro had slipped a bit. I was roughly 6* ATDC (yes, after) as a base time. Would explain the really high cranking speeds. Cough.

Anyhow, that aside....

Does EBL (or winaldl for that matter) realize when doing a VE learn, that during a hard decel that DFCO is coming into effect, and that it really doesn't need to add crazy amounts down around 20kpa?

Conversely, does it take AE and PE into account while you're getting on the happy pedal? I'm guessing not on this one, since the events are short. Maybe. Or not. Could be. I dunno.

Lastly (for the moment), while doing a VE learn within EBL, I have no problem at idle, nor on decel. But even at a steady state cruise, I can't get away from the 'yellow box' at anything really past a couple percent throttle. I know it's just me. What have I done wrong?

 

I can't speak for how WinALDL works, however, the EBL takes into account all items that affect the fueling. It knows when AE is active, PE is active, DFCO is active, the TPS or MAP is changing, when in lean cruise and so on.

For the no-learn during cruise with the throttle open, check that it isn't in PE mode or lean cruise mode (highway mode). Easiest way to see this is via a playback of the log file you did during the VE Learning.

Also check that the ECM is in closed loop and learn mode. The ClsdLp and Learn indicators on the main display will show this. Along with the Y/N columns int he analysis log file viewers.

Note that you can open multiple copies of the WUD. Open the log file in the analysis display of one, then do a playback on another. Can then watch the play back and pause it, then go to the analysis on the other and look at the log at that point.

Ok, cool - I was just concerned that one was actually pulling out, or putting in fuel, and then the learn sequence was trying to put it back in etc!!

As for the 'no VE learning' part...
I am in CL - but I'll have to make sure it's not in lean cruise next time. I didn't data log that session.
Is it then best to thermally (or speed) disable lean cruise and PE before doing the VE learn?
Anything else I should shut off? Just seemed odd that I was getting all these cells filled in except for ones above a certain point!

A few of my VE cells have hit 100, so I guess I need to turn up the BPC a touch (part numbers are gone on my injectors, so I was guesstimating there flow).

 

You can disable lean cruise either way. I tend to use the MPH parameter. I don't like to disable PE. Maybe move it up some for more coverage, but don't melt the motor.

I know this is an old post but I think it to be relevent to the topic. I do I raise up PE without disabling it? For it to come on alittle bit higher in the RPM band.It seems for me it comes on way too soon and it's affecting my learns abit.

 

There are a couple of ways to do this. First is the "PE - Min RPM Threshold." This specifies an engine RPM that must be exceeded before the ECM will go into PE mode.

The other method is via the "PE - TPS% Enable Threshold" table. This table defines the amount of TPS% required at RPM ranges to enter PE mode.

If the BPC is calculated accurately it should not be necessary to change it. I had same issue a couple years back but the VE over 100 turned out to be a VAC leak at header flange. Some one forgot to use lock nuts. After fixing that the VE held around 94 max.

My BPC is fine 119.00 for my 16psi and 55lb injectors. The reason I asked the question was that when I give it alittle more gas than normal, like trying to pull out into the highway for just trying to get up to a good speed without really getting on it it goes into PE mode and it usually pops in when I get into certain MAP areas I want VE learn to check out.

 

I think stock is set to like 70% TPS for PE. I never changed the RPM limit for PE it is stock EBL. I made a few attempts to get some learns at higher map. I believe I set my invoke to like 85% and then gradually raised RPM locked in each gear. I recall doing 2nd and 3rd of 4 gears only. PE did not appear. Today my PE is set to 50% TPS. WB shows PE at 12.3.1 and I have it set to 12.5. Maybe if I stay on it it will raise to 12.5. Not many places I can test that out you know.

a "pop" is generally a lean condition. Should not occur while in CL as you are commanded to stoich. Your % TPS to invoke PE seem correct. I suspect you are lean on AE fueling. I would up the AE -TPS 5% in the lower half of table and try that. If still pops add another 5%. My AE-TPS table today is pretty flat with no increase over values present in 25% TPS-AE. I see AE frequently in logs and PE infrequently.
