Can't connect with Tuner Pro RT

I tried to connect this evening with Tuner PRo, in the truck with the key on, not running. I have used Datamaster in the past but was going to switch to Tuner Pro RT because most of the terminology on this forum references those definitions. I hit the connect button and it gave me a cannot initialize the serial port. I have done some searching but can't find my own answer. My cable is a USB cable into a laptop running Vista. I have looked all through TunerPRo and can't find a place to specify the com port. Must I use a serial port cable? I don't believe I have a serial port to use. The only 15 pin port on the laptop is for a monitor I believe. I know my cable is good because I have used it recently with datamaster. What do I need to check?
Working on BJYL with OD$ mask and OD.xds I downloaded from Tuner Pro website...
Thanks, Charles

Tools-->preferences-->Data Acq./Emulation tab you will see where you can select the COM port, also there is a test for valid cable button in that screen too.

To find out what COM it is set to go into your device manager and plug the cable in and see that com comes up active.

Re: Can't connect with Tuner Pro RT

Thanks, Dan
I got it switched to COM4 and tested. It found the cable no problem. I will try to datalog again tommorow. I couldn't find that info in the help section of TunerPro either.
Thanks a lot for your help,
Charles
