so i have noticed that if I connect the cable to laptop, then connect to ALDL port on car, with 10k resistor jumpered, then turn the car to the on position, connect via Tuner Pro RT, it connects flawlessly and start the car it reads and never drops, so far this has worked 100% of the time and have captured numerous logs so far.

How do you guys connect 10k resistor along with the aldl cable??
I just got the cable the other day and cant get the data stream properly.
The cable has a jumper on top of the USB cable, but it doesn't matter how I set it, it would still not stream correctly. So far I used winaldl and tunerpro RT. On both I'm getting the same thing, its identify the connection, but i'm not getting anything on the "dash", and only few incorrect datastreams like o2, tps, and collant temp. the o2 and coolant temp is stuck on the same number, and the tps is changing its value every second. I know it got something to do with that 10k resistor you guys are talking about, but I'm not sure how to use it with the aldl connector, also what is the jumper on top of the USB cable??.....any help would be greatly appriciated, cause I'm about to give up and return that cable if it doesn't going to work

assuming you have this cable....
http://www.aldlcable.com/sc/details.asp?item=aldlobd1u
here is the pdf that shows how to jumper it
http://www.aldlcable.com/aldl-USBinstructions.pdf
this is the pdf for the OBD1 cable listed in the first link. if this is correct and you follow my steps, it should connect every time and allow you to log data.

Re: Tips/hint on how to connect via ALDL on 1227165 ECM 6E
Can someone explain to me why I can connect instantly every time, but as soon as I remove the 10k resistor the data stops flowing ??? It is really not driveable in ALDL mode. It pings like crazy..

If you are using winaldl you will need to have the 10k resister left in. The idle will increase and the knock sensor will be disabled. If you are using tuner pro you can disconnect the 10k resister once you have data flow.

I was under the impression that you could remove it with winaldl as well..
The last time I attempted to log data it didn't ping under light accelaration like it did this time. Now I'm wondering what the heck is going on.

Since this thread has come back to life, I will add that I recently got a laptop with a serial port. Connects 10 times better than the old USB/serial adapter.

Yes I know this is old but I'm bringing it back again, so I know that this has always been a problem with the 165 and I know that its not a software problem, has anyone ever tried to run a sheilded wire from the ecu to aldl?
Trying to help a friend out and it's drive me crazy that I can only get about five minutes at a time of the datastream.
Was thinking that maybe some noise on the line is causing the loss, would be nice if someone tried this already and same me some time.
