Moates chipbooster question

On the chip booster, does it snap into the factory prom holder, or does the factory prom holder have to be unsoldered and the chip booster soldiered in?
Can a zif adapter be placed on top of it or is there a clearance problem with the switch? Thanks for any help

The Socket Booster 1.0? http://www.moates.net/socket-booster-10-p-171.html

You could solder it directly to the daughter board of the '7747 (or similar ECM).

What I usually do, is solder a DIP socket to the daughter board, that allows me to plug the Socket Booster in, or a ZIF or the G1 adaptor. If it's a vehicle I beleive I will be tuning several times in a short period of time, I will place a ZIF socket in the ECM, so that I can place either the Socket Booster with the Ostrich in the ZIF socket or an EEPROM with a G1 adaptor.
I have also used the Socket Booster as a G1 adaptor, since it has the same capability for chip addessing with the 24 pin addressing switch.

You are working with a '7747, or similar ECM that used a 2732 PROM originally?

Re: Moates chipbooster question

I'm using a 1226870 ecu (85 tpi) with 2732a chip. If I understand correctly your saying that unsoldiering the factory prom holder and have soldiered a dip socket soldiered in place. This will give me the opportunity to use a g2 adapter, chip booster or emulation cable? Is this right? Just a little confused

Yes, that is basically how it goes. Though you have to use the Socket Booster with the Ostrich 2.0.

I'm sure you'll find most people would suggest you swap to a later ECM though, a '165, since I believe it is more supported than the very early TPI ECM. The '165 would use a different set of adaptors and not need the Socket Booster.

Re: Moates chipbooster question

I plan on doing that swap soon, the problem is right now the engine is modified and I have a custom mail order for it, it's far from right but ita runs better than the stock bin. My idea was to read the program on the existing chip and write it on a EEPROM and or ostrich to tweak it, if I mess up in the mean time I have a spare 6870 that I can install my mail-order tune chip quickly and at least keep the car drivable until winter, when I will switch to a 165 ECM. As for right now I cannot switch quickly If I change the wiring
harness.
