vats problem
hey guys i dont know if this is the right section to post this but i think im having a VATS problem cuz my motor doesnt want to crank or anything. it has a new fuel pump, battery and starter so ive ruled all that out. my car is a 91. originally it had a 305tbi. i took it out and put a 350 tpi. it has the 730 ecm. so anyways i ordered a chip from some guy and he disabled the vats on my chip. do i have to do something to the Vats module itself or the starter relay? i thought if it was disabled in the chip that i wouldnt have to touch the vats module am i wrong? if someone can give me some info i'd really appreciate it. i really want to get my car rollin again. thanx in advance

Re: vats problem
When my vats went on the frits it would crank, but thats all it would do. I soldered in a potentiometer set to the resistance of my key to override the vats till i get my tuning stuff. Sounds more like something is wrong with that chip, do you still have the stock one?

Re: vats problem
Disabling VATS in the chip just allows the injectors to fire regardless of the VATS module.
You still need to bypass the Starter Enable Relay by grounding the black with yellow striped wire at the relay.

Re: vats problem
hey i did that a couple of days ago and the car turned over but didnt turn on. after it didnt turn on that day and it should have, i decided to check my fuel system today and it turns out im not getting any gas to my fuel rail!!!! the pump is new though so what should i do?? do you think it could be bad? i checked the fuse by the battery and it was fine. i also checked the fuel pump relay and it seemed fine. i could feel it click on. i even tried jumping the relay just in case but still no gas. well i know i dont want to drop the tank again but i think i might have to is there anything else i can check before i drop it?
Re: vats problem
Is the fuel filter new? Also, if you have access to a voltmeter, i would pull back the rear carpet and check the voltage (with the key on) to the thru-wall connector behind the back seat that goes to your pump. Most of the time, you can hear the pump kick on when you turn the key.
Did you check the fuses?
I dont know if vats is the problem, because you still have your original key and module, right? ANd somebody correct me if im thinking wrong on this, but if you have the key matching the module then it will send the OK signal to the computer.
Im about to do this same swap, so i really hope you find out whats wrong and post it when you do!

Re: vats problem
VATS won't keep your fuel pump from running...it only disables the starter and injectors IIRC. Like luvmy said, check voltage where the wiring passes through the floorpan behind the rear seat, or at the fuel pump harness connector. The relay could still be bad, even though it clicks on and off. If the contacts are scorched or corroded, it'll "feel" like it's working but won't pass enough current to run the pump.
