Will a Joystick port work?

I bought an ALDL cable that goes to a 15 pin serial. I have an old sound card laying around with a 15 pin serial Joystick port. I was wondering if I could install this card in my computer and have WinALDL work properly?

Thanks!

Why wouldn't it work? My ALDL cable that I got was an ALDL > 15 pin serial port. What would I need to make it work?

The only thing they have in common is that they both have 15 pins. Electrically they're completely different.

What confuses me is why 15-pin serial? I've been in PC's and data comm for a long time, serial was first a 25 DB connector. It was then changed to a 9-pin DB connector.

Have a link to this 15-pin ALDL/serial cable.

Note that 15-pin DB connector is also used for a monitor port. Same size as the 9-pin DB, but higher density. Be sure to not try that as it is an output from the laptop.

Yeah, I bought one of those Actron cables on amazon.com thinking I could just get a serial > USB connector and be good to go...I was completely wrong. I may have to just bite the bullet and pay the $55 for the ALDL > Usb cable.

X.21 was 15 pin, but it's synchronous. Then again RS-232 could be synchronous if it wanted to be, just not in PCs.

The Actron cable is proprietary, it'll only work with an Actron scanner.

Heh! Maybe do a joystick-to-emu/data adapter? Get one of those old Sidewinder joysticks to control spark and fuel on the different axes via lookup. Use the rumble feedback for knock or WB alarm. Add ETC and have more fun!
