I have a 1988 TPI L98 and have been reading a bit about the EPROM customisations and bin tables.

One question I haven't see answered is "Are there upgrades to the embedded ECM software?"

My understanding is that the ECM uses a Motorola 68K embedded processor running code written in Assembler.

Did the factory ever release upgrades/updates to this Assembler code as source or binary and is it possible to install this?

Yes, there are changes that are available for particular ECMs/Masks. Been writing my own ECM code going on 16 years now.

There isn't much for the MAF TPI ECMs. However, there is a WB input patch that can be used to data log a WB set up along with the other ALDL information.

For the SD TPI engines there is super AUJP (SAUJP) which has extended VE tables in it. Along with some other changes.

The factory always releases the code as a BIN as it is in the PROM that way. There are hacks of various BINs. Where it was disassembled, formatted, and commented.

@RBob,

thanks for the reply.

Any suggestions where I could get updated PROM ECM embedded code?

Did GM ever release any updates or maintenance releases to this code?
