Question about datastream definitions

Ok, I am currently using SAUJP v4, 730 ECM, and TunerProRT 5 to tune my heads/cam/intake L98. I was looking over a couple of datalogs of my idle last night and noticed something wierd. Now, I was not totally comfortable with the adx file that came with the SAUJP bin, so what I did was took the old 730 ads datastream definition and converted it to the current .adx version that is used by TunerProRT 5.

Using this version, I noticed that I idle at 50kpa and I was recording some knock retard of 2*.

I switched to the datastream definition that was provided with the SAUJP zip file and with that version, with the same datalog file, I am reading idle at 43kpa and knock retard of 5-8*. All other values matched up such as BLM, engine speed, etc.

Stupid question time... does it matter which datalog definition file I record to and play back on? For instance, if I record with one datastream definition can I only use that definition file to playback or are the definition files interchangeable?

Or is there something that I need to modify in the SAUJP adx file in order for it to read "correctly?" Thanks for any help guys.

Uhmm. Hrmm.. I thought the datastream was not different between SAUJP and normal $8D?

Re: Question about datastream definitions
The datastream is the same.
Check the conversion values between the two files you have to see if there is a difference. Obviously, one must be different than the other.
I'd like to know what the problem is there.

Re: Question about datastream definitions
Thanks for the suggestions. I will check when I get home from work tonight and let you guys know. I also thought that the ads definitions were interchangeable between the two, but the one provided with the SAUJP zip had more functional features.

Is v4 still the latest recommended starter bin for 350 manual cars ?

Re: Question about datastream definitions
Ok, it looks like the formulas used to caluclate the values are different between the 730 adx file off the TunerProRT website and the adx file that was supplied with the SAUJP v4.

The equations to calculate KPa are:
730A
X*0.392156+0.000000

SAUJPv4
X*0.369000+10.415000

Looks like each definition has a different approach to getting the KPa value, but the question is, which one is the correct value?

Try datamaster $8D, and see what it reports. I'd trust that one.

Re: Question about datastream definitions
This one is correct for converting the ALDL stream MAP value from ADC counts to KPa:

SAUJPv4
X*0.369000+10.415000

Oh. Cool!

So we just need to update the definition at the tunerpro website then?

Re: Question about datastream definitions
Thanks Rbob? Can you please explain how one gets to that equation? I'm not only curious in HOW this stuff but WHY also. Thanks!

It has to do with the output of the MAP sensor versus input and that there is an 8-bit ADC being used to read it.
