Are these the correct files for 730 3.1L auto?
Ive searched but it can be a puzzle.
Are these the correct files to start with for a 3.1L, 730 ECU, automatic tranny???
730AZTY.bin and $88 XDF file???
The injector flow rate is higher then i though it would be. It says 16.7#. This makes me think i have the wrong bin.
Thank you!!!!

Re: Are these the correct files for 730 3.1L auto?
AZTY comes up as correct in CalData for 1227730 1990 3.1 Auto. That bin is listed in 7730 $88 information thread. So looks right. There's other bins if you want to compare at:

I've calculated the injector flow rate to be 16.47 #/hr by reversing the BPC value in the AZTY calibration. So 16.7 #/hr is rather close.
Via PM: for the low budget this is the least expensive way to get into the game, from moates.net:
Burn2 (flash chip programmer)
G1 adapter (skip the ZIF, they are not reliable in an automotive environment)
C2 SST 27SF512 chips (get at least 3)
ALDU1 and CABL1 XtremeALDL and NewCABL1 Combo for data logging

Re: Are these the correct files for 730 3.1L auto?
Ok we have problems here. I have the aldl cable from aldlcables.com This thing is not working at all.
Has anyone used one of these???? Im using the $88 mask and the ads file for my specific car.
I have been using the tunerpro v4 since i have ads. files for the data streaming. I cannot get tunerpro to connect! Keeps saying cannot initialize port! Any help.anyone had this issue because ive searched but none of that info helped.
Should I use another tuner program? I did notice that the laptop i have has a com7 port only. Thats the only option I have and i saw in the instructions that higher then a com 4 wont work. I hope to use another lap top later to make sure that isent the issue.
Thank you for any help as this is flustrating. All i wana do is connect the thing

Re: Are these the correct files for 730 3.1L auto?
Well i installed the aldl cable on my desktop and used tunerpro rt V5 and once i got the ads. files to be saved as adx. files the thing actually tried to connect even though i did have it connected to the car. There is a little red area that says DA connecting.. that stayed like that for a minuet then said DA not connected in yellow. I guess it jsut might be the computer, who wants to help me drag up the computer after christmas and see if that was the problem??
Re: Are these the correct files for 730 3.1L auto?
Well first I would put TunerPro V5 on the laptop, there's only about 200 fixes and improvements mentioned on the website.
Then go into your device manager and remove all USB Controllers, as you remove them at top the USB root hubs will remove from bottom. When they are all gone, restart computer and let it reinstall what's on the computer with nothing plugged into USB ports! Then first thing you plug in is your cable and let it install, if you already installed drivers that came with it. If not follow the directions for installing drivers first. Then plug in cable and let it install.
Then go to Devices and printers and find it, click on it, click on hardware tab and see if it's USB Serial Port (COM 3-4). If not click on it then properties, driver and make sure it's FTDI, then back to port settings, advanced and change it to Com 3 or 4.
Open TunerPro, Tools, Preferences, Data Acquisition and Emulation. Use Plug in, Configure plug in and it should be Com 3 or 4 Test valid interface and if it passes good! If not move it to another USB port and try again. Mine always works but never know which USB port after using other USB devices like printer, USB wireless mouse etc... HTH!

I wouldn't start with removing USB controllers...
We haven't established if he has been able to get a "Cable found and functioning" return yet in preferences.
Let's start by trying all option in Tuner Pro RT first.

Re: Are these the correct files for 730 3.1L auto?
He could, but said only COM7 was available. I never got one to work on mine there... or higher
Removing all USB is not that big a deal, restart just installs everything it has built in laptop on restart, it's the parephrials that take the COM ports ususally, so if you've plugged in 20 USB devices over the years they are all gone/assigned, just let's you install cable first to get COM3 or 4...
But yes TPv5 and try first, if you can't get a conection try another USB port, then open TP again. If you tried all USB slots with TP and no connection, then time to remove all USB and get cable installed first.

Re: Are these the correct files for 730 3.1L auto?
Ok heres where im at. I got tunerpro v5 to log data and record if but no data is there. I saved it but theres nothing there. In the settings on tunerpro it only gives the option of com1 port. And the lap top i have is pis*ing me off because i cant seem to figure out how to change com7 to com1.
I was so irritated that i tried efi-live and it was streaming data like crazy but it didnt look right at all. Since i couldnt find a datastream file for that program that matched my car. The only reason i tried efi-live is because it gave me the option of com7 and i wanted to make sure the data was being transferred though that cable.
Im going to borrow a diff laptop tommorow.. a better one because the one im trying to use is a mini gateway one, ya know the ones with the smaller screen

Windows CE is for palm like devices. Netbooks use full versions of Windows (XP,7).

Re: Are these the correct files for 730 3.1L auto?
What?
Converting an ADS to an ADX s what you need to do to use TP RT V5.
ADS is for TP V4, ADX is for TP V5. They are file types.
Do you get a "Cable found and functioning" return when testing in the preferences set-up? (Make sure the cable is not plugged into the car, but into the computer only.)

Yes, you need to get the "Cable found and functioning" return before trying to connect to the vehicle.
I also use the verified return as a way to find the correct com port sometimes.

Re: Are these the correct files for 730 3.1L auto?
Took another log.. for the most part the BLM and INT values are close/steady to 128 but when im coasting up to a stop or at idle there low(100), This was like this in closed and open loop mode.
I did one run under hard acceleration INT value was steady at 130 and said rich through out the whole rpm range from 0-60. The acceleration was in closed loop.
Why are these values oppisite of what i though they would be?? lean at idle, and crusing but rich under a load?????
my IAC error is still always showing.....
o2 is about a constant 900mv under that hard acceleration(0-60)mph, and about a constant 400-450mv when crusing. Constant 200mv when at idle. I did remove the air system so ive heard conflicting storys if that messes up the reading 100mv.
Thanks for any input as you all know i dont know crap and am trying to learn!!

Re: Are these the correct files for 730 3.1L auto?
ahh ya i just relized that too.. what a idiot i can be....opps. should i start to smooth the VE tables out..lowering the ve in low rpms/kpa, and raise the ve for the high rpms/kpa. Then see if that helps the int values. Then if i can ever get those a little closer work on the spark tables next right? but is 130 int/blm values about right for higher rpms??
sometimes when i was costing it was below 100 int values for a good 10 seconds till i gave it some gas

Re: Are these the correct files for 730 3.1L auto?
one last thing about blm values.. they follow the int values right so if the int value went up(lean) then the blm values would down up using the pulse width multiplyer to add fuel. And what im aiming for is a close to as possible int and blm value?? 128 or having them both as close to that as possible?

when look back at the datalog i notice that almost the whole time the BLM stays at 110 when crusing with the Int at 128. And when im im idleing for a minuet at the end of the log. in drive with the brakes on the int is constant 128 and the blm is 139 in red, constantly.

the INT moves the BLM so if the ecm sees a rich condition the INT will dip down, pulling the fuel back. once it drops to a given point, say 100 counts, and is still in a rich condition, the BLM will move down one point. so lets say the BLM is at 128(stoich) and there is a rich condition. the INT will move first, so the INT falls and hit the low point as set in the code, 100. still rich, now the BLM drops to 127, and the INT resets to its original starting point, which was 128. if it stills sees rich conditions, the INT dips again, and falls to 100 again, the BLM drops to 126. etc, so on, and so on.
so once ecm sees that the AF mixture is at stoich, the BLM will stabilize and not move. the INT will move around but as long as it stays between the low point as set in the code(100) and the high point(ex 150) the BLM wont move. so thats why its possible to have a BLM of 110 and the INT at 149. keep in mind that everytime the BLM moves, the INT will reset back to 128. this is in one particular cell and happens faster than you will notice, thats why datalogs help with the tuning.

Re: Are these the correct files for 730 3.1L auto?
Ok that makes sence. I never saw a BLM of 128 or anything close to in two datalogs that i took. they were both in close loop. Thats what i want when im data logging?
Im guessing that cam and heads did make the lower rpms/and kpa values quite rich. Should i go into the VE tables and smooth them out then take out some fuel in lower RPMs and add a little in the High Rpms? Then get a rough bin to make a chip then see if that helped any.. I can see that this is gonna be a long process..
Both the Idle and Main VE table look like the rocky mountains!

is the EGR, EVAP, AIR still on the car? if so, some people start the tuning process in open loop and use a WBO2 to get the VE tables pretty close. or you can disable all those to start with so you arent fighting with the EGR vs. VE, EVAP and AIR tables too. then you can tune the base VE tables. dont adjust anything until you get a good solid datalog with alot of drive time on there. this is where the history tables come into play. its best to get the history table as populated as possible with data. avoid PE and AE as much as possible, i increased my PE vs TPS enable to 70% TPS so i could populate the higher load cells.
*EDIT* i just downloaded AZTY with $88 adx and mask, is that what you are using? if so post a datalog and ill take a look at it

most people prefer to have the BLMs at or 1 to 2 counts below 128. does your .adx have the history tables set up? if so it makes everything alot easier, you can look at any one cell and adjust the value in the corresponding cell in the VE table. are you burning chips yet, or emulating? or just datalogging for now?

Im not burning chips yet but i do have a batronix burner and flash eprom.
Right now im jsut data logging so i can get an idea of the process of what to change.
The whole a/c system is removed along with the A.I.R system. Those are the only system that I have removed. I dont have a wide band 02 sensor and to be honest I dont think I can squeeze on into my budget for a few weeks at best.
I am using those azty bin, $88 mask. Im not sure how to upload the datalog files onto this forum since after my logging I made a exported a copy and its an excel format, which thirdgen wont seem to let me upload.
Thanks for the help!! You are helping me alot more then any post that i could find could ever!!

Re: Are these the correct files for 730 3.1L auto?
I have found the history table set up but im not sure how to use it. I will see if i can figure it out. actually when i look at it the history table is there but its never been set up. It has no values in the edit definition function.
Were looking at snow tommorow here so im going to go for a 15 min drive and log again. Might as well get as much data as needed. But hopefully i can figure out how to upload the stuff before i have to go to work.

Getting a lot of data errors, need some pauses in the macros or something to stop that. Once that is done can use Excel to sort the data. Going by RPM & MAP use the BLM to adjust the VE tables.
Otherwise can still adjust the tables by going through the data log manually looking at the BLM at various RPM & MAP values.
Didn't see any knock which is good.
RBob.

When i did watch the log manually i wrote some area down where it was lean at low rpms, then would look at the table and there at the same value, would be a huge valley!. Those stock VE tables are quite jagged so i think smoothing them out and making a roughin of values should at least get me started. Ive looked through the stickys but how exactly do i know the address for when the chip is going to be programed????
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Are these the correct files for 730 3.1L auto?
One more post then im off to work. After reading the stock memcal im woundering if i should get a G1 adapter? Im thinking i should! I have a older batronix burner, the header piece that I used to read the memcal and a 29C256 flash eprom thats never been used.
Im sure I could just remove the old memcal and solder in the new and use the header adapter to read and reflash the new eprom but im worried that I may not have Limp home mode then!

It sounds like you were describing replacing the EPROM with a different EPROM or EEPROM. The LHM is not programmed onto the EPROM, it is part of the NETRES, so replacing the EPROM will leave the LHM intact.
Using the G1 adapter is very convient though.

Just to clarify, the MEMCAL is the blue and brown (or black) piece that has the EPROM, NETRES, and knock filter.

Sorry im still new at the lingo...opps. I did mean replace the eprom. itself. Thanks for the correction

The history table is done in the $88-V1.adx with values. You must have grabbed the wrong one...
Re: Are these the correct files for 730 3.1L auto?
fasteddi go back and grab the $88-V1.1.adx the history table is built and defined and the pause macro is added. Please let me know if glitch is gone and attach a good datalog (xdl) from TunerPro.
Also this $88.adx is from ALDL 148.ds is for 3.1 PFI (LH0) (VIN=T) 91 1F, 2F. That is your car, correct?
This ALDL148.ds has a Mode 7 command which not much is known about other than listed as:
Mode 7 – Broadcast Mode (GM Development)
But your getting data so we are close!
If you have a wiring diagram we also need to see if there are other wires tied into serial data from PCM to pin M on ALDL port. It may need something silenced, like airbag SIR ABS (EBCM)

Re: Are these the correct files for 730 3.1L auto?
The 148 data stream spec is correct for that car. The $88 mask sends chatter so the scan tool needs to sync to it first before sending a data request packet. Doing that will have the ECM stop sending chatter as long as data request packets keep arriving.
Can also just keep sending data request packets until the ECM sees one.
Nothing else on the ALDL line that requires silencing.
RBob.

Re: Are these the correct files for 730 3.1L auto?
I ended up having to buy the burn2 chip programmer from moates because my batronixs programmer was old and suxed on new computers like the one i have, so i wont be able to burn till it gets here in a week or so.
Ill upload the xdl file from data logging tommorow night after i get it logged. Thanks for the help guys!
Also how long do i have to drive to fill those BLM tables up? 10 minuets of logging and I only filled half of them!

Ill try not too.
