EPROM 82S181
As I have learned from thirdgen that many of old CCC car used '82S181' chip for their ECMs. ECMs are readily available but hard to find are Eprom and specially the bin file. Follwoing are my understanding. Please correct me if I am in error.
Hardware:
1. Get a laptop with serial port
2. Programmer device for AR lab of 'AR32' ($289)
3. Adapter board name 'ABIP' from AR Lab ($189)
4. Three blank '82S181' Eprom for $20 (*you have to buy at least 3)
5. An working ECM 1226865 (working one for $25 to $50)
Connectivity
1. AR 32 gets connected to laptop using a parallel cable
2. Adapter 'ABIP' goes to 'AR32'
3. Specific Power from 'AR32' goes to 'ABIP adapter'
4. Good working 24 pin Eprom goes on adapter.
PROM Reading process
1. Software that comes with AR32 gets installed in laptop.
2. Application that is installed knows 82S181 and runs.
3. Reading begins.
4. It is saved.
Prom burning
1. Replace working Eprom with blank Eprom
2. Burn it with correct bin.
Installed newly burn Eprom to the working ECM. Done.
--------------------------------------------------
Total cost of investment is about $500 covering everything including Eprom and an working ECM. I have never done this. Please, and please correct me of errors and missing steps.

Re: EPROM 82S181
EagleMark,
I am not planning to spend $500. However; when I checked few commerical places for an 'ECM fix' I was given a price around $300. I am going through mulitple scenerios here. Fix it with all exisitng original parts (money I am willing to spent), modify present system (money I may not want to spent + no knowledge), or pay some one else to do it (money?).
As I have been searching this (& other) websites I have yet to find a complete procedure (with hardware, software & money) for 'refreshing' a CCC ECM wihtout modification (specifically one that I have). There are plenty on TBI, TPI. I hope this would at least provide a headway to 'many' like us who has never been in this specific task.
I hope to get a good working ECM with correct prom for a reasonable price (definately not $500) and hope it does what it is supposed to do and that is let me pass NJ emission without hassle (as it did years back when I knew nothing of ECMs).
I am hopping the thirdgen gurus will shed some light on this procedure.
