Need help on a new PROM Please!

Ok yes i am a newbie but I have been trying to figure this out so please help....

I have a 1991 Z28 TPI, ecu 1227730, which already has a custom tune on a 29C256 chip
The person who originally did the programming years ago doesnt have time to assist me and doesnt know if his equipment even works....

So this is what i did:

1) purchased Moates Burn 2 programmer and 27sf512 chip (i didnt know i had a 29c256 before purchase)

2) downloaded and installed Tuner pro v5, with $8D files Super_8dm2.ecu and 1227730_8D.ads

3) Ran Flash and Burn software to read the 29C256 chip, which is a 1kb file (i assume this is right as buffer shows data)

4) Loaded tuner pro with ecu file and bin

At this point this is where i am stumped on what to do next

ALL i want to do at this time is to DISABLE VATS.... i see the VATS switches but none of the checkboxes for SET are selected...

Re: Need help on a new PROM Please!

UPDATE:

so for #3, obviously a 1k file is wrong... i set the addresses for 32k and now have a 32k bin

i have also tested bin with $8D.xdf from http://www.gearhead-efi.com/gearhead...ef/xdf/$8D.xdf

I went to the flags:

VATS Select
VATS Diagostic (Error 46)

I have unchecked "Set" for both, which i assume changes a value from 1 to 0

reburned chip and tested prom, still cannot start car....

Note: i was using resistor trick prior to get car started, which is why i am disabling VATS.... i have this currently disconnected to see if programming worked to get car started

Re: Need help on a new PROM Please!

Have you verified that the offsets are correct when you program the new EEPROM?

Does the check engine light, turn on for a second, then turn off for a second then turn on and stay on? If not, the programming is not correct.

Re: Need help on a new PROM Please!

issue resolved... after hours and hours of research....

what i didnt realize is there is a part 2 of the VATS delete... disabling the VATS in the eprom is part 1.... Part 2 is to ground out the starter relay behind the driver side kick panel... 4 wires, cut the black/yellow wire and the wire that is still connected to the relay, set to ground..... the black/yellow wire is from starter relay to the bcm........

Disabling the VATS in the PCM will let the car run, the BCM lets the car start. If you turn off VATS in the PCM and ground the wire from the BCM to the starter relay the car will both start and run

im back and running.... f u VATS! heh

Check your facts. There are certain years, where there is a starter interrupt as well as the injector disable.

sound like you had something wrong with that relay.vats is disabled through modifying prom settings.

This is the VATS system, if you just disable in the prom, how do you still expect to start the car??? this is why you ground the start enable relay...

You have to use the matching S_AUJP bin along with the ADX, just using the ADX can change something that is not defined correctly, or not even part of the stock bin.

Camar0s is obviously finding what he needs, that includes the starter enable relay controlled by the VATS module, in his car.

WOW, your still trying to argue with me? I am a chip burner.LOL. I also owned a thirdgen for many years. You are trying to convince me that VATS is disabled some other type of way? VATS is disabled in the prom. That is final. I should know, I did it myself. Don't mislead any of the new readers on here including your self.

Nope your wrong again! It's not the SAUJP bin i was referring to , it's the saujp xdf file, I also have the adx file that I would have sent to him if he wanted it.

Re: Need help on a new PROM Please!

An example is if someone were to buy a VATS bypass module instead of buying a chip with it deleted. They would not have to go pulling out the driver's side kick panel to modify the starter enable relay. That is just rediculous

Same applies using the wrong XDF (I meant XDF, and typed ADX for some reason), using the S_AUJP XDF with a non S_AUJP bin can cause problems, for the same reasons I have already stated.

I'm not sure what your trying to say here. It sounds to me like you are contradicting yourself, in that if a bypass module was used, no modification to the starter enable relay would be needed, but using a VATS delete PROM would require a change to the starter enable relay, which is exactly what the OP has done.

There are countless threads on here discussing the starter enable relay's role in a VATS system, please read up on it.

This thread has run it's course and certain people are only posting in it to argue so it will now be locked, unfortunately.
